See the attached screen for details. 100% reproducible. Boots fine from GPT/MBR. Isn't affected by the hw.vga.textmode. Furthermore, I cannot make it boot automatically, see my message in the sta= ble@ for details - https://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-stable/2016-August/085280.html: "Recently I've installed FreeBSD 10.3 as an experiment to get the=20 UEFI-enabled system, on one of mine Supermicro servers. The installer=20 worked just fine, but after insttallation I got myself a problem: it=20 cannot boot. If I select to boot the old way, froma disk, BIOS says=20 there's no valid boot device, and I guess i'ts as intended. When I=20 select to boot to the UEFI shell, I got a listing of valid boot deviced=20 identificators, and then an error: =3D=3D=3DCut=3D=3D=3D 'f??('is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable=20 program or batch file Exit status code: Invalid parameter =3D=3D=3DCut=3D=3D=3D and the booting process bails to the shell itself. When I enter =3D=3D=3DCut=3D=3D=3D fs0: EFI\BOOT\BOOTX64.EFI =3D=3D=3DCut=3D=3D=3D FreeBSD boots just fine, but I would rather see it boots automatically." as the final attempt to resolve this I've upgraded the installed system to 11.0-p2 (nothing changed) and upgraded it's BIOS from 2.0b to 2.2 (got this hangup problem). I'm not entirely sure who's problem is that, but FreeBSD totally lacks any documentation about installing UEFI loaders, so at least = this is worth attention. Still both problems can be caused by the FreeBSD UEFI support. Workaround: change to the legacy GPT/MBR bootstrap scheme. --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.= From owner-freebsd-amd64@freebsd.org Sun Nov 6 12:26:48 2016 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-amd64@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 641D4C30689 for ; Sun, 6 Nov 2016 12:26:48 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::16:76]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client did not present a certificate) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 4914ADF5 for ; Sun, 6 Nov 2016 12:26:48 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from bugs.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.118]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id uA6CQmHV081069 for ; Sun, 6 Nov 2016 12:26:48 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: freebsd-amd64@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 214264] iwn on 11.0 (Centrino Wireless-N 2230) Date: Sun, 06 Nov 2016 12:26:48 +0000 X-Bugzilla-Reason: CC X-Bugzilla-Type: new X-Bugzilla-Watch-Reason: None X-Bugzilla-Product: Base System X-Bugzilla-Component: wireless X-Bugzilla-Version: 11.0-RELEASE X-Bugzilla-Keywords: X-Bugzilla-Severity: Affects Only Me X-Bugzilla-Who: neptunium.element@gmail.com X-Bugzilla-Status: New X-Bugzilla-Resolution: X-Bugzilla-Priority: --- X-Bugzilla-Assigned-To: freebsd-wireless@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Flags: X-Bugzilla-Changed-Fields: bug_id short_desc product version rep_platform op_sys bug_status bug_severity priority component assigned_to reporter cc Message-ID: Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable X-Bugzilla-URL: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/ Auto-Submitted: auto-generated MIME-Version: 1.0 X-BeenThere: freebsd-amd64@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.23 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the AMD64 platform List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sun, 06 Nov 2016 12:26:48 -0000 https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=3D214264 Bug ID: 214264 Summary: iwn on 11.0 (Centrino Wireless-N 2230) Product: Base System Version: 11.0-RELEASE Hardware: amd64 OS: Any Status: New Severity: Affects Only Me Priority: --- Component: wireless Assignee: freebsd-wireless@FreeBSD.org Reporter: neptunium.element@gmail.com CC: freebsd-amd64@FreeBSD.org CC: freebsd-amd64@FreeBSD.org I have Centrino Wireless-N 2230 adapter (Lenovo IdeaPad S400) which worked = well on 10.X. I'm on 11-RELEASE on my Lenovo T430 laptop. I have some trouble to get the wireless network to work. The weird part is, that it works in rare occation= s. So every 50th boot or so, it connects to my AP just fine. However, rebootin= g or restarting or changing the interface will break the connection and it won't reconnect. Hardware is the PCIe version of the RTL8188CE adapter: pciconf -lcve rtwn0@pci0:3:0:0: class=3D0x028000 card=3D0x819510ec chip=3D0x817610ec rev= =3D0x01 hdr=3D0x00 vendor =3D 'Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd.' device =3D 'RTL8188CE 802.11b/g/n WiFi Adapter' class =3D network cap 01[40] =3D powerspec 3 supports D0 D1 D2 D3 current D0 cap 05[50] =3D MSI supports 1 message, 64 bit enabled with 1 message cap 10[70] =3D PCI-Express 2 endpoint max data 128(128) RO link x1(x1) speed 2.5(2.5) ASPM disabled(L0s/L1) ecap 0001[100] =3D AER 1 0 fatal 2 non-fatal 1 corrected ecap 0002[140] =3D VC 1 max VC0 ecap 0003[160] =3D Serial 1 019181feff4ce000 PCI-e errors =3D Correctable Error Detected Non-Fatal Error Detected Unsupported Request Detected Non-fatal =3D Completer Abort Unsupported Request Corrected =3D Advisory Non-Fatal Error /boot/loader.conf if_rtwn_load=3D"YES" legal.realtek.license_ack=3D1 I copied the firmware files from /sys/contrib/dev/rtwn/ to /etc/firmware/ /etc/rc.conf ifconfig_em0=3D"up" ifconfig_rtwn0=3D"ether 00:21:cc:d3:e7:1b regdomain ETSI country DE" wlans_rtwn0=3D"wlan0" ifconfig_wlan0=3D"WPA" cloned_interfaces=3D"lagg0" ifconfig_lagg0=3D"laggproto failover laggport em0 laggport wlan0 DHCP" /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf network=3D{ ssid=3D"AntiGeek 802.11bg" priority=3D1 bssid=3D90:84:0d:db:07:6d psk=3DPASSWORDHASH } Software versions: * 11.0-RELEASE-p2 (GENERIC amd64) * wpa_supplicant v2.5 (I also tried the ports version) Once I set the interface active with `service netif restart`, the following output gets written to /var/log/messages. Product: Base System Version: 10.3-RELEASE Hardware: amd64 OS: Any Status: New Severity: Affects Some People Priority: --- Component: kern Assignee: freebsd-bugs@FreeBSD.org Reporter: tim.newsham@nccgroup.trust CC: freebsd-amd64@FreeBSD.org CC: freebsd-amd64@FreeBSD.org Created attachment 176751 --> https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/attachment.cgi?id=3D176751&action= =3Dedit reproduction program Integer truncation issues in clock_ts_to_ct() result in out-of-bounds results. These results are trusted by atrtc_settime() which calls bin2bcd(ct.day). bin2bcd is implemented with a table lookup, and when ct.day is out-of-bounds, it results in an out-of-bounds read to the bin2bcd_data[] table. This can lead to a page fault in the kernel and a panic. To trigger this issue you must have the PRIV_CLOCK_SETTIME privilege. Specifically when ts->tv_sec is large or negative on 64-bit platforms, the clock_ts_to_ct function calculations: days =3D secs / SECDAY; can result in an incorrect value that is negative. This can later result in several incorrect calculations in the result including ct->dow =3D day_of_week(days); which performs a modulus operation on a negative value, an integer overflow in ct->year, and an out-of-range value in ct->day, ct->hour =3D rsec / 3600; rsec =3D rsec % 3600; ct->min =3D rsec / 60; rsec =3D rsec % 60; ct->sec =3D rsec; and out-of-range values for ct->min and ct->sec (due to modulus operations on negative values). Verified on FreeBSD 10.3-RELEASE kernel on amd64 platform with QEMU "hardware". Recommendation: The "years" and "days" variables in clock_ts_to_ct() should be "long" and not "int". This function should not be called when the input "ts.tv_sec" field is negative, or it should return an error, or the function should be updated to properly handle negative second values. It should be carefully written to avoid signed-overflows=20 and signed-modulus operations in this case. Symptoms observed are that boot1 sees my pool (prints my pool name after "f= ound the following pools" message) but hangs where it should have run loader.efi, and the only way to recover is a hard reset. Same result after every boot. tsoome@ appears to have reproduced the problem and a likely fix is up for review at https://reviews.freebsd.org/D8487 which I will be testing shortly, but he requested that a bug report be filed. --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.= From owner-freebsd-amd64@freebsd.org Thu Nov 10 07:45:10 2016 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-amd64@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id CF2BCC39CA8 for ; Thu, 10 Nov 2016 07:45:10 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::16:76]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client did not present a certificate) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id BE9D9DE for ; Thu, 10 Nov 2016 07:45:10 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from bugs.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.118]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id uAA7jAdO077308 for ; Thu, 10 Nov 2016 07:45:10 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: freebsd-amd64@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 214375] RAIDZ pool with cheksum=skein fails to execute loader.efi from boot1.efi on UEFI system Date: Thu, 10 Nov 2016 07:45:10 +0000 X-Bugzilla-Reason: CC X-Bugzilla-Type: changed X-Bugzilla-Watch-Reason: None X-Bugzilla-Product: Base System X-Bugzilla-Component: kern X-Bugzilla-Version: CURRENT X-Bugzilla-Keywords: uefi X-Bugzilla-Severity: Affects Some People X-Bugzilla-Who: linimon@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Status: New X-Bugzilla-Resolution: X-Bugzilla-Priority: --- X-Bugzilla-Assigned-To: freebsd-bugs@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Flags: X-Bugzilla-Changed-Fields: keywords cc Message-ID: In-Reply-To: References: Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable X-Bugzilla-URL: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/ Auto-Submitted: auto-generated MIME-Version: 1.0 X-BeenThere: freebsd-amd64@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.23 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the AMD64 platform List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Thu, 10 Nov 2016 07:45:10 -0000 https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=3D214375 Mark Linimon changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Keywords| |uefi CC|freebsd-amd64@FreeBSD.org |imp@FreeBSD.org --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.= From owner-freebsd-amd64@freebsd.org Thu Nov 10 07:45:42 2016 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-amd64@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 73ABFC39D24 for ; Thu, 10 Nov 2016 07:45:42 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::16:76]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client did not present a certificate) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 6324819B for ; Thu, 10 Nov 2016 07:45:42 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from bugs.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.118]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id uAA7jfco078074 for ; Thu, 10 Nov 2016 07:45:42 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: freebsd-amd64@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 214369] FreeBSD-current, ioctl() invalid arguments on microcode update Date: Thu, 10 Nov 2016 07:45:42 +0000 X-Bugzilla-Reason: CC X-Bugzilla-Type: changed X-Bugzilla-Watch-Reason: None X-Bugzilla-Product: Base System X-Bugzilla-Component: kern X-Bugzilla-Version: CURRENT X-Bugzilla-Keywords: patch X-Bugzilla-Severity: Affects Many People X-Bugzilla-Who: linimon@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Status: New X-Bugzilla-Resolution: X-Bugzilla-Priority: --- X-Bugzilla-Assigned-To: freebsd-bugs@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Flags: mfc-stable10? mfc-stable11? Expected behavior: normal boot until init. Actual behavior: when loader is reading kernel from disk, UEFI firmware cra= shes due to the heap corruption. Problem can be reproduced under 12-CURRENT and 11.0-RELEASE-p2. Problem can= 't be reproduced under 10.3-RELEASE-p11. Bisection shows that problem is relat= ed to changes in lib/libstand/dosfs.c made in r298230. This problem seems to be caused by long disk read (past the end of allocated buffer) in lib/libstand/dosfs.c:ioread() or device strategy functions calle= d in that context. Attached patch for lib/libstand/dosfs.c fixes this heap corruption (and also simplifies fetching of the next cluster from FAT cache): --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.= From owner-freebsd-amd64@freebsd.org Sat Nov 12 00:03:19 2016 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-amd64@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 67E93C3A1C0 for ; Sat, 12 Nov 2016 00:03:19 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::16:76]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client did not present a certificate) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 33535619 for ; Sat, 12 Nov 2016 00:03:19 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from bugs.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.118]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id uAC03JA1085987 for ; Sat, 12 Nov 2016 00:03:19 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: freebsd-amd64@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 214432] bhyve VM exiting: reason VMX / exit_reason 2 Date: Sat, 12 Nov 2016 00:03:19 +0000 X-Bugzilla-Reason: CC X-Bugzilla-Type: new X-Bugzilla-Watch-Reason: None X-Bugzilla-Product: Base System X-Bugzilla-Component: kern X-Bugzilla-Version: CURRENT X-Bugzilla-Keywords: X-Bugzilla-Severity: Affects Some People X-Bugzilla-Who: alex.deiter@gmail.com X-Bugzilla-Status: New X-Bugzilla-Resolution: X-Bugzilla-Priority: --- X-Bugzilla-Assigned-To: freebsd-bugs@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Flags: X-Bugzilla-Changed-Fields: bug_id short_desc product version rep_platform op_sys bug_status bug_severity priority component assigned_to reporter cc Message-ID: Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable X-Bugzilla-URL: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/ Auto-Submitted: auto-generated MIME-Version: 1.0 X-BeenThere: freebsd-amd64@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.23 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the AMD64 platform List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sat, 12 Nov 2016 00:03:19 -0000 https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=3D214432 Bug ID: 214432 Summary: bhyve VM exiting: reason VMX / exit_reason 2 Product: Base System Version: CURRENT Hardware: amd64 OS: Any Status: New Severity: Affects Some People Priority: --- Component: kern Assignee: freebsd-bugs@FreeBSD.org Reporter: alex.deiter@gmail.com CC: freebsd-amd64@FreeBSD.org CC: freebsd-amd64@FreeBSD.org Host OS: FreeBSD 12.0-CURRENT r308465 amd64 Guest OS: SmartOS joyent_20161110T013148Z installed packages:=20 grub2-bhyve-0.40 Grub-emu loader for bhyve Steps for reproducing: 1. I keep getting iwn controller panic while booting. Eventually the machine does come up and does connect to the wireless networ= k. But it takes quite long to boot and has most of the time one, sometimes up = to 4 rounds of iwn controller panic. Sometimes, but rarely, it does not panic. The relevant lines from rc.conf around the panic are below and I attach dme= sg, rc.conf and loader.conf The panic might have something to do with dhcp since I do not get it when I= use dhclient after boot. Thank you in advance for all tips Best regards Markus ** my system I am on a Lenovo SL520 Laptop the wlan is identified as iwn0: mem 0xf2200000-0xf2201fff irq 19 at device 0.0 on pci3 uname -a FreeBSD ########## 11.0-RELEASE-p2 FreeBSD 11.0-RELEASE-p2 #0: Mon Oct 24 06:55:27 UTC 2016 root at amd64-builder.daemonology.net:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/GENERIC amd64 freebsd-version 11.0-RELEASE-p3 ** when does the panic show up I only get this error when booting. I cannot remember having seen this panic when I delete the DHCP from ifconfig_wlan0=3D"WPA DHCP" and use dhclient later. When I play around manually, I never get the panic. Oddly. when I use SYNDHCP instead of DHCP I get an errormessage while booti= ng about some wrong pararameter, but *no panic either*. This errormessage flashes by, to fast to read, and does not show up in eith= er dmesg or messages. Putting if_iwn_load=3D"YES" iwn1000fw_load=3D"YES" into loader.conf, does not change anything except reporting "module iwn alr= eady present!" in line 9 of dmesg. The result without the two lines is the same. btw The wlan worked fine when I had PC-BSD 10.3 on the Laptop for a couple of weeks, but being new to BSD maybe I just didn't notice. ** Excerpt from dmesg ---------------------------------------------------------------------- iwn0: mem 0xf2200000-0xf2201fff irq 19 at device 0.0 on pci3 . . . wlan0: Ethernet address: ##:##:##:##:##:## ... iwn0: iwn_read_firmware: ucode rev=3D0x271f0501 wlan0: link state changed to UP re0: link state changed to UP ... wlan0: link state changed to DOWN iwn0: device timeout iwn0: iwn_read_firmware: ucode rev=3D0x271f0501 iwn0: scan timeout iwn0: iwn_read_firmware: ucode rev=3D0x271f0501 wlan0: link state changed to UP iwn0: iwn_intr: fatal firmware error firmware error log: error type =3D "BAD_COMMAND" (0x00000007) program counter =3D 0x000024D8 source line =3D 0x00000446 error data =3D 0x0000000000000000 branch link =3D 0x000024D6000024D6 interrupt link =3D 0x0000082600000000 time =3D 8365 driver status: tx ring 0: qid=3D0 cur=3D0 queued=3D0=20=20 tx ring 1: qid=3D1 cur=3D0 queued=3D0=20=20 tx ring 2: qid=3D2 cur=3D0 queued=3D0=20=20 tx ring 3: qid=3D3 cur=3D2 queued=3D0=20=20 tx ring 4: qid=3D4 cur=3D58 queued=3D0=20=20 tx ring 5: qid=3D5 cur=3D0 queued=3D0=20=20 tx ring 6: qid=3D6 cur=3D0 queued=3D0=20=20 tx ring 7: qid=3D7 cur=3D0 queued=3D0=20=20 tx ring 8: qid=3D8 cur=3D0 queued=3D0=20=20 tx ring 9: qid=3D9 cur=3D0 queued=3D0=20=20 tx ring 10: qid=3D10 cur=3D0 queued=3D0=20=20 tx ring 11: qid=3D11 cur=3D0 queued=3D0=20=20 tx ring 12: qid=3D12 cur=3D0 queued=3D0=20=20 tx ring 13: qid=3D13 cur=3D0 queued=3D0=20=20 tx ring 14: qid=3D14 cur=3D0 queued=3D0=20=20 tx ring 15: qid=3D15 cur=3D0 queued=3D0=20=20 tx ring 16: qid=3D16 cur=3D0 queued=3D0=20=20 tx ring 17: qid=3D17 cur=3D0 queued=3D0=20=20 tx ring 18: qid=3D18 cur=3D0 queued=3D0=20=20 tx ring 19: qid=3D19 cur=3D0 queued=3D0=20=20 rx ring: cur=3D19 iwn0: iwn_panicked: controller panicked, iv_state =3D 5;
