Quick Start sub-section outdated (incorrect): "2. Identify the wireless adapter. The FreeBSD GENERIC kernel includes driv= ers for many common wireless adapters. If the wireless adapter is one of those models, it will be shown in the output from ifconfig(8): % ifconfig | grep -B3 -i wireless If a wireless adapter is not listed, an additional kernel module might be required, or it might be a model not supported by FreeBSD. This is a fresh installation. I never use upgrade tools on any system. I'd rather improve my speed and proficiency with fresh installs, to avoid bit r= ot and other surprises, and to be ready to respond to quickly catastrophic hardware failures. Hence sysutils/desktop-installer and sysutils/auto-admi= n. I looked over your info and still no luck. Your working config looks exact= ly like my original config, in fact. I think we'll just have to wait until this issue is fixed upstream. I hope it will get fixed so that it works for you some time in the not too distant future. Meanwhile, in case you are willing to go through some extra trouble, I sugg= est that you consider buying an external USB WiFi module with a chipset that has good driver support in FreeBSD. This might be more hassle than it's worth, though? Also, having a WiFi module sticking out from your laptop on the move puts you at risk of destroying the module and the port if you or somebody e= lse accidentally bump into it. Besides it could also be that the link aggregati= on problems are caused by the ethernet interface, who knows. You might try an = USB ethernet interface as well, perhaps? At that point it gets quite ridiculous with the amount of extra cables and modules I suppose. Maybe it's not the b= est idea. Just something I came to think of.(In reply to Jason Bacon from comme= nt #5) --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.= From owner-freebsd-doc@freebsd.org Sat Nov 19 23:43:13 2016 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-doc@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id A7EF3C4BEAD for ; Sat, 19 Nov 2016 23:43:13 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::16:76]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client did not present a certificate) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 97DDFED9 for ; Sat, 19 Nov 2016 23:43:13 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from bugs.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.118]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id uAJNhDYl022521 for ; Sat, 19 Nov 2016 23:43:13 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 214679] "Recommendation" for portmaster and portupgrade needs to be removed Date: Sat, 19 Nov 2016 23:43:13 +0000 X-Bugzilla-Reason: AssignedTo X-Bugzilla-Type: new X-Bugzilla-Watch-Reason: None X-Bugzilla-Product: Documentation X-Bugzilla-Component: Documentation X-Bugzilla-Version: Latest X-Bugzilla-Keywords: X-Bugzilla-Severity: Affects Only Me X-Bugzilla-Who: marino@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Status: New X-Bugzilla-Resolution: X-Bugzilla-Priority: --- X-Bugzilla-Assigned-To: freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Flags: X-Bugzilla-Changed-Fields: bug_id short_desc product version rep_platform op_sys bug_status bug_severity priority component assigned_to reporter Message-ID: Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable X-Bugzilla-URL: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/ Auto-Submitted: auto-generated MIME-Version: 1.0 X-BeenThere: freebsd-doc@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.23 Precedence: list List-Id: Documentation project List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sat, 19 Nov 2016 23:43:13 -0000 https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=3D214679 Bug ID: 214679 Summary: "Recommendation" for portmaster and portupgrade needs to be removed Product: Documentation Version: Latest Hardware: Any OS: Any Status: New Severity: Affects Only Me Priority: --- Component: Documentation Assignee: freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.org Reporter: marino@FreeBSD.org Per precedent (bug 206922), statements that lead one to believe that portupgrade or portmaster tools are "recommended" need to be removed from documentation. https://www.freebsd.org/doc/handbook/ports-using.html Chapter 4.5.3.
