I checked how sysutils/iocage=20 store its configuration in properties and it uses the=20 "org.freebsd.iocage:property" "namespace". It looks fine to me, but I=20 want to be nice and ask first before I introduce something under domain=20 name I don't control. So my questions are: Are there any objections to introduction org.freebsd.vblade into the port= ? Do we log somewhere what user properties are in the wild, at least in=20 the ports, to avoid conflicts? --=20 Best Regards Ondra Knezour --------------ms060708090306010606040109 Content-Type: Not sure what you mean by this, but newer FreeBSD systems have minthreads a= nd maxthreads options on the nfsd to set lower/upper bounds on the # of thread= s. To be honest, having too many threads doesn't have much negative impact, so= I wouldn't worry about having too many. >The NFS statistics are as follows: ># nfsstat -e -s > >Server Info: > Getattr Setattr Lookup Readlink Read Write Create >Remove > 97818 311 107539 0 12018551 25266454 858 567 > Rename Link Symlink Mkdir Rmdir Readdir RdirPlus >Access > 296 0 0 0 0 0 427 7216 > Mknod Fsstat Fsinfo PathConf Commit LookupP SetClId >SetClIdCf > 0 2232 0 0 0 0 0 0 > Open OpenAttr OpenDwnGr OpenCfrm DelePurge DeleRet GetFH Lo= ck > 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 > LockT LockU Close Verify NVerify PutFH PutPubFH >PutRootFH > 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 > Renew RestoreFH SaveFH Secinfo RelLckOwn V4Create > 0 0 0 0 0 0 >Server: >Retfailed Faults Clients > 0 0 0 >OpenOwner Opens LockOwner Locks Delegs > 0 0 0 0 0 >Server Cache Stats: > Inprog Idem Non-idem Misses CacheSize TCPPeak > 0 0 0 37502946 94 592 > > >Is there any way I could decreas number of misses ? Break your network badly;-) You don't want hits for a Duplicate Request Cache (DRC). It doesn't improve= performance, but improves correctness by avoiding an RPC from being performed multiple t= imes on the server. (ie. Hits are BAD. Since the first 3 numbers are 0, there are 0= hits and that is good. A DRC is mainly for UDP mounts where the client retries the RPC too a= gressively. For TCP, RPCs are only retried when a client does a TCP reconnect.) Disabling the DRC will reduce the CPU overheads, but does put your data at = risk if/when a client does a TCP reconnect. You can disable the DRC for TCP via: sysctl vfs.nfsd.cachetcp=3D0 OR sysctl vfs.nfsd.tcphighwater=3D100000 allows the cache to grow larger, reducing the CPU overheads that occur when= it does housekeeping of it. (Trading CPU for kernel memory use.) Again, disabling the cache will reduce CPU overheads, but does put your dat= a at risk if/when a client does a TCP reconnect and resends outstanding RPCs to = the server. I doubt any of this DRC tuning will affect your hangs. Mirrored ZFS pool called "external" with *three* components (call them "primary", "Sec1" and "Sec2") 2. Write data to said pool. 3. "zpool offline external Sec2" 4. Physically removed "Sec2" and place it in a vault somewhere; "Primary" and "Sec1" remain in the computer. 5. Run system for some fairly long period of time (days, weeks, perhaps months) 6. "Zpool scrub external" (make sure both drives are ok); note zero errors at completion. 6. "zpool offline external Sec1" 7. Remove Sec1, exchange with "Sec2" at vault, place "Sec1" back in computer. 8. "zpool online external (long series of numbers that zpool status says was Sec1 last time it was mounted)" Wait for resilver to complete, which _*should*_ only require that _*changed*_ sectors on "Primary" since Sec1 was removed be rewritten to "Sec1". Well, this works if the time is relatively short. However, what I have observed is that if the time is relatively long or some unknown event(s) take place in the interium then you can get this: zpool status external pool: external state: DEGRADED status: One or more devices is currently being resilvered. The pool will= continue to function, possibly in a degraded state. action: Wait for the resilver to complete. scan: resilver in progress since Mon Oct 24 12:32:40 2016 487G scanned out of 2.26T at 127M/s, 4h6m to go 96.1G resilvered, 21.05% done config: NAME STATE READ WRITE CKSUM external DEGRADED 0 0 0 mirror-0 DEGRADED 0 0 0 label/Primary.eli ONLINE 0 0 0 9568232509714437622 OFFLINE 0 0 0 was /dev/label/Sec1.eli label/Sec2.eli ONLINE 0 0 555K (resilvering= ) Note the enormous number of checksum errors (all on the *just-attached* disk.) Do you think its possible that I have *that many* actual checksum errors on those blocks and yet *zero* I/O errors logged by the driver *or* the "smart" data when queried from the disk itself *and* geli is not complaining about corruption of the data its reading either? Uh, not damn likely, and further, the re-write is successful (e.g. there are no write errors winding up being logged during this process.) Any idea what's going on here when this happens? I suspect that there is some event that has cleared the log of "pending" changes between the devices in that mirror, such that you can no longer successfully online the device without at least part of it (but not all) being re-written -- but I have no idea what event that would be (and thus how to avoid it happening, if it can be avoided.) Why do something like this in the first place? Because it's very a convenient way to take a device offsite for fire/disaster protection and yet have the resync be very fast if there is a lot of data on that dataset that has not changed, since (in theory) the system only needs to rewrite the portion of that disk that has changed blocks. --=20 Karl Denninger karl@denninger.net /The Market Ticker/ /[S/MIME encrypted email preferred]/ --------------ms080800030109050505030103 Content-Type: application/pkcs7-signature; It needs to be changed for stable/10, since mountd.c on stable/10 handles both the old and new server. I can do that when I MFC it. Btw, the new server defaults to vfs.nfsd.nfs_privport =3D=3D 0, so it won't normally matter that "-n" doesn't change it. --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.= From owner-freebsd-fs@freebsd.org Tue Oct 25 00:34:58 2016 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-fs@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 8A40DC1E877 for ; This had a custom Dell firmware, it wouldn't flash to a modern generic LSI IT firmware without some fiddling. IIRC there were two main problems: 1) it required flashing to a very old version of the LSI IR firmware to get rid of the dell firmware - newer versions would error as an incompatible card. With that on there, I could then flash an old version of the IT firmware, before finally flashing the up to date IT firmware that I wanted to run. 2) the DOS tools provided with the old firmware wouldn't flash under DOS on a UEFI motherboard, so I had to get EFI shell working and flash with the EFI utilities[1]. With those annoyances out the way, the card has worked flawlessly with a pair of junked SGI Rackable SAS expanders (also from ebay) for the past 3-4 years now. $300 for 32 hot swap bays is pretty good imo. If it ever finds a directory with a link count less than 2, it panics. Thus, an rm -rf that encounters a directory with a link count below 2 causes a kernel panic. The proposed fix is to return the error EINVAL rather than panicing. The effect is that the requested operation is not done, but the system continues to run. At a more convenient later time, the filesystem can be unmounted and cleaned (with fsck or journal run). Once cleaned, the operation can be rerun to successful completion. This fix takes that approach. The panic message has been converted into a uprintf(9) to provide the user with the inode number and filesystem mount point of the offending directory and EINVAL is returned for the operation. The long (three year) delay in fixing this problem occurred because the bug was misclassified when originally assigned and only this week was found during a sweep of old unresolved bug reports.
