Are you sure that the ALOM firmware you have is new enough to support the ssh function? I have a V240 that I had to upgrade the firmware on before the ssh stuff worked. Now I have access both via the serial port into the ALOM, as well as ssh into the ALOM, and then attach to the serial port of the machine. My notes indicate that until the version 1.6.x firmware for the ALOM, only the serial port access was available. The support for ssh was added in the 1.6.x firmware - this matches my experience on the V240, where it had ALOM firmware 1.5.1 originally, when I bought the machine. -Kurt From owner-freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org Fri Nov 18 19:59:11 2016 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-sparc64@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 6E12AC48945 for ; Fri, 18 Nov 2016 19:59:11 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from jimukyoku@kpa.ees.kyushu-u.ac.jp) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206c::16:87]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client CN "freefall.freebsd.org", Issuer "Let's Encrypt Authority X3" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 4A2CC16B4 for ; Fri, 18 Nov 2016 19:59:11 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from jimukyoku@kpa.ees.kyushu-u.ac.jp) Received: by freefall.freebsd.org (Postfix) id 2F0141682; Fri, 18 Nov 2016 19:59:11 +0000 (UTC) Delivered-To: freebsd-sparc@localmail.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:1]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client CN "mx1.freebsd.org", Issuer "Gandi Standard SSL CA 2" (verified OK)) by freefall.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 2DB441681 for ; Fri, 18 Nov 2016 19:59:11 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from jimukyoku@kpa.ees.kyushu-u.ac.jp) Received: from eesserv2.ees.kyushu-u.ac.jp (ckt.ees.kyushu-u.ac.jp [133.5.152.101]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client did not present a certificate) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 7595E1690 for ; Fri, 18 Nov 2016 19:59:10 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from jimukyoku@kpa.ees.kyushu-u.ac.jp) Received: from [216.45.54.23] (216.45.54.23.static.greencloudvps.com [216.45.54.23] (may be forged)) (authenticated bits=0) by eesserv2.ees.kyushu-u.ac.jp (8.14.4/8.14.4) with ESMTP id uAIJWGQJ012443 for ; Sat, 19 Nov 2016 04:59:08 +0900 Message-Id: <201611181959.uAIJWGQJ012443@eesserv2.ees.kyushu-u.ac.jp> MIME-Version: 1.0 Subject: Google Award Notification To: freebsd-sparc@freebsd.org From: "Google Inc." It had one 146GB hard disk in it. I went to add a second similar disk but the OS doesn't seem to see it. I can tell the hardware sees it as if I pull it out while the machine's on I get an alert from the ALOM. But I don't see a "da1" device in dmesg. What am I doing wrong? Normally I get a message from the kernel when I insert a new drive, most often with USB media (e.g. a USB "thumb drive"). You might have success with forcing a re-scan of the scsibus: camcontrol rescan all And then list devices: camcontrol devlist -v -Kurt
