In the latter case, I have found a circumvention (of sorts): After dhclient finally times out and gives up, login (as root) on ttyv1, then issue "servi= ce netif restart wlan0". In my experience, this always makes it work again. (= As I use xdm, started via getty out of /etc/ttys, I then also issue "service xdm stop".) Per suggestion, I have augmented /etc/rc.conf with 'wlandebug_wlan0=3D"state+scan+auth+assoc+crypto"' ... and while I did not encounter the above-described issue on the first "head" boot this morning, I did on the second, when the laptop was running: FreeBSD g1-252.catwhisker.org 11.0-CURRENT FreeBSD 11.0-CURRENT #406=20 r298919M/298920:1100106: Mon May 2 04:42:04 PDT 2016=20=20=20=20 root@g1-252.catwhisker.org:/common/S4/obj/usr/src/sys/CANARY amd64 For each of the "head" boots this morning, I booted verbosely; I have retai= ned a few log files from the second boot (where link was dropped), and managed = to attach one of them. (I didn't see a way to attach multiple files -- other = than concatenating them into one single mess, which seemed a bit counterproducti= ve.) List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Tue, 03 May 2016 03:41:03 -0000 hi, I'm slowly going through bwn and looking at what I can pull out to make adding new phys (11n, etc) easier. There's .. a lot. I'm going to try and extract out the transmit/receive code and whatever other PHY bits we need to make it easier to bring over code from b43 and brcmfmac. I'm also going to sprinkle some lock assertions through the codebase to make sure that we're serialising access to the hardware. I'd really hate to find overlapping access to the PHY/MAC. :( Landon has been working on a rewrite of the siba/bhnd bus code to make it a whole lot easier to do things with these chips, so thanks to him. I'm hoping that can be flipped on by default on -HEAD but I'd first like some bwn hardware that I can see working right. Now - I'm going to ask for some help! Apparently the b43 driver developers actually found/fixed a whole lot of hangs which used to require pio mode - and now apparently it doesn't. I'd really appreciate it if someone would go through the b43 driver in linux and find the commit(s) where they fixed PIO mode for a bunch of PHYs. I'd like to commit that to FreeBSD. There's also some RX overflow/underflow stuff that was committed to dragonflybsd that wasn't committed back to FreeBSD. I'd also like that investigated and tested if possible. Thanks! -adrian From owner-freebsd-wireless@freebsd.org Wed May 4 01:38:07 2016 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-wireless@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id BC719B2AE9C for ; Wed, 4 May 2016 01:38:07 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from adrian.chadd@gmail.com) Received: from mail-ig0-x22b.google.com (mail-ig0-x22b.google.com [IPv6:2607:f8b0:4001:c05::22b]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES128-GCM-SHA256 (128/128 bits)) (Client CN "smtp.gmail.com", Issuer "Google Internet Authority G2" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 8A9D01A74 for ; Wed, 4 May 2016 01:38:07 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from adrian.chadd@gmail.com) Received: by mail-ig0-x22b.google.com with SMTP id bi2so134060407igb.0 for ; Tue, 03 May 2016 18:38:07 -0700 (PDT) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=gmail.com; s=20120113; h=mime-version:sender:date:message-id:subject:from:to; bh=hgg8JcHDCN6y4nhITtYR7W0JGMtG0D1zo6B70MpnSfQ=; b=yCCGd5h2gZ+K+epB2YqN5lPVWWVt+FIzMi5svw8xtwM9wEqC3IgzHd11FRPWwp6HTo d6g3YgVe8YLZa7aBPvrYfWvNdX+j86EhdbQVgCg/u0rPiFJbtq9afScXbuQdkBicJ9bE Q988F9IByF19fgQwZ+vHRHKpj09TXy5HAAKJWweGf+0SzaMMkaKJfYCYE+EZT/yvAxtk u+USPNIoUn2GMaRS8nFw4h/veU7g63CErE90jXFhfeKb6jJZRabRbBvTlNP8SKZtiz49 YRNBEXZZ3/weqDzF+QLq8C1bx0wpyG7wkyLOBAfu8qtiuAGwKdGjFKt/ZYUr0yXKvLBI qnMg== X-Google-DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=1e100.net; s=20130820; h=x-gm-message-state:mime-version:sender:date:message-id:subject:from :to; bh=hgg8JcHDCN6y4nhITtYR7W0JGMtG0D1zo6B70MpnSfQ=; b=CQWJ7bJfEP5gLIFNxfmSZD8KgLdg49hGnnX9PW+q1y3u16AHaAWxa6j4no2TByppTj OYoq621RGVdEli8hcqwz0BeJ0YdjzCAsRSEK3uqFb8gcIKeS1yeFOco0BiMlSWWsMsqs Tx9yrZByDX/0yIiAI3UsNSyT9+vVix1gGXsx8l9kLiKOaWdlBSELbpxz6o+SpbtuWWRq Ko72YdAg2wy9+nHoF7gVvIGdBfv3xCjXR5QswB+qGW9yy0jmQEbT9zfk6aFqVjlU/2DM tRP37gIBkKdNMZrzhtAoRvhleX3pAwAyqKCfUqk7Ro1bzeZKYMXBMahum04HKk61eO9k qzSQ== X-Gm-Message-State: AOPr4FWiqgPVtBu5CL287NP3ffcHRBWD+mTS7c48vl4KazVju3U6vHD7NAKd3Ky45Jr5XaDZPrU3+xvw2UteGg== MIME-Version: 1.0 X-Received: by 10.50.40.234 with SMTP id a10mr31335393igl.37.1462325886970; Tue, 03 May 2016 18:38:06 -0700 (PDT) Sender: adrian.chadd@gmail.com Received: by 10.36.113.3 with HTTP; Tue, 3 May 2016 18:38:06 -0700 (PDT) Date: Tue, 3 May 2016 18:38:06 -0700 X-Google-Sender-Auth: 7HmRLrbrEPz5hWpz03eQSOJT-uM Message-ID: Subject: please try bwn(4) in -HEAD From: Adrian Chadd To: "freebsd-wireless@freebsd.org" Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8 X-BeenThere: freebsd-wireless@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.22 Precedence: list List-Id: "Discussions of 802.11 stack, tools device driver development."
