I tried enter-control-b on the serial console, escape-enter-control-b and maybe a few other related combinations. No effect. Pulling the plug and booting an old kernel worked fine. No need to wiggle wires or reseat connectors (apart from power). There was an earlier thread saying loader.efi needed to be updated, but /boot/loader.efi is current as of last night. Is something besides a normal installworld required? I tried manually copying loader.efi from the object tree to /boot, it seemed to make no difference. The stuck kernel sources are at 331137, world sources are about 24 hours older. The running kernel is r326343. It crashed at the 1.6 MB point in the logfile, the usual place. What debris could be gathered is at http://www.zefox.net/~fbsd/rpi3/crashes/20180319/ If somebody would take a look at the kernel config file located at http://www.zefox.net/~fbsd/rpi3/kernel_config/ZEFOX and point out what might have kept it from booting that would be instructive. In passing, an RPi2 running r331179 has made it past the 12MB point in the buildworld log file using only 2 GB of swap, half of it on USB flash. It appears to have broken with r328916 on Feb 6. From then through r328981 the kernel page faults early in boot. Starting with r328982 the fault is fixed but we get this new problem with the "Unable to fill RX queue" followed by a hang. The "unable to fill" is caused by an m_getcl(M_NOWAIT) returning NULL. The hang is caused by a malloc(M_WAITOK) in if_alloc() hanging forever. The only other useful info I have so far is that this only happens with the GENERIC kernel. If you build a kernel using the BEAGLEBONE config it boots normally. I don't really know what to do next to debug further. I can insert a kdb_enter() right before the if_alloc() call that hangs, but I don't know what to look for in the debugger. -- Ian From owner-freebsd-arm@freebsd.org Mon Mar 19 23:09:02 2018 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-arm@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 14BB1F522A9 for ; Mon, 19 Mar 2018 23:09:02 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from glebius@FreeBSD.org) Received: from cell.glebi.us (glebi.us [96.95.210.25]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client CN "cell.glebi.us", Issuer "cell.glebi.us" (not verified)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 8B0BD6B188; Mon, 19 Mar 2018 23:09:01 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from glebius@FreeBSD.org) Received: from cell.glebi.us (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by cell.glebi.us (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTPS id w2JN8rAh013503 (version=TLSv1.2 cipher=DHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 bits=256 verify=NO); Mon, 19 Mar 2018 16:08:53 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from glebius@FreeBSD.org) Received: (from glebius@localhost) by cell.glebi.us (8.15.2/8.15.2/Submit) id w2JN8rNG013502; Mon, 19 Mar 2018 16:08:53 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from glebius@FreeBSD.org) X-Authentication-Warning: cell.glebi.us: glebius set sender to glebius@FreeBSD.org using -f Date: Mon, 19 Mar 2018 16:08:53 -0700 From: Gleb Smirnoff To: Ian Lepore Cc: Nicola Mingotti , freebsd-arm@freebsd.org, Udit agarwal Subject: Re: 15-march.img hangs at boot on BB-Green Message-ID: <20180319230853.GE1917@FreeBSD.org> References: <869c43be-b380-cf06-1b50-cff933d20abe@gmail.com> <1521499996.99081.109.camel@freebsd.org> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1 Content-Disposition: inline Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit In-Reply-To: <1521499996.99081.109.camel@freebsd.org> User-Agent: Mutt/1.9.3 (2018-01-21) X-BeenThere: freebsd-arm@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.25 Precedence: list List-Id: "Porting FreeBSD to ARM processors." Please help me with the same. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I am Darshan Sharma a CSE student from Panjab University, India. I like the idea of - Improve support for an embedded CPU/board . I will choose an arm based board for this because that is more easily available in our country. Though I have not selected any specific board yet but soon will. I have used Gentoo before so I am already familiar with kernel programming. I will be happy to learn new things which will stand in my way and I am sure enough that I can complete the project in the given time. Is there anyone who is willing to mentor this project? I will discuss this more with you. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thanks and Regards, Darshan Sharma From owner-freebsd-arm@freebsd.org Sat Mar 24 16:28:22 2018 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-arm@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 183E4F58F50 for ; Sat, 24 Mar 2018 16:28:22 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from andrnils@gmail.com) Received: from mail-lf0-x22e.google.com (mail-lf0-x22e.google.com [IPv6:2a00:1450:4010:c07::22e]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES128-GCM-SHA256 (128/128 bits)) (Client CN "smtp.gmail.com", Issuer "Google Internet Authority G2" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 64C9273EB6 for ; Sat, 24 Mar 2018 16:28:21 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from andrnils@gmail.com) Received: by mail-lf0-x22e.google.com with SMTP id v207-v6so22464492lfa.10 for ; Sat, 24 Mar 2018 09:28:21 -0700 (PDT) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=gmail.com; s=20161025; h=mime-version:from:date:message-id:subject:to; bh=N3q5woTZFHIxMJnRjtq/hzYh30Z7v+oS1t8xp5QMfWQ=; b=vWQFJJq9/BLuXLjF5jB3DzGV1s8qXXFPY4cr8j0Az+TGV701QkPOynMfNSMJSo/mWb oPb/ROHgTH/sykApfzV9WgqgdT8zpGGGkOcy39ebWfrfZsqyBX5sf//V+bcE74+Xb268 kbL2hmJKKcxdwmDZ6ykVkTsOhLgReAmulQYGUARIWAx8HGNByFqwcKfMHaBx1qUGlY+a Iueyzi5WX70yU0NUI+2KEkfNjpeHCDACQTcLmrtLp46ynFIFXj+TIfB84yiPv2VpkRG3 EIAW7pVDBbh4VCk5L3Yu1pzi7BqUFUv3kMQerryREHrJIlsgCaNKHxuQLIVg1iXHlAF+ D52A== X-Google-DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=1e100.net; s=20161025; h=x-gm-message-state:mime-version:from:date:message-id:subject:to; bh=N3q5woTZFHIxMJnRjtq/hzYh30Z7v+oS1t8xp5QMfWQ=; b=PzDn6Z9z6xixMgOk+IuiA135NasHHNjYCKPKxkERnmjU63xU/yxIgVZ9x5ZxS+jsST Kpkva/L+7bpa3c1PPo4jazdW3mE6fpWhM/92RiIyly06Muu+qcBqcd1ghIAhNDReFbrn VT54j082yI/BSXGrHpkYfgAdTsNn+O0kTZSCLcqPwrqgkGOSEK6YO++vqDfiH6NOUN7E PpunkEJU/Q+nxyHmzWltjTLNWw0wb9Tj07etHP5gNDAnA+othht6CC79JNBgTfawRRGs Gamipe+JJ2T2deOaktEV7tsWDN7CNtZi+2fDpgiKVJEvsnO94dvrXDkxP2vqLz7ObE5i vCLA== X-Gm-Message-State: AElRT7F5afkR4FveXaLdAymv7Pihf67fOX5wf8Fn3ir+4+cpqC7z4tY8 zovdLFP31Fcsrmm6kgR67ipd1ga+S3UkrKAXM+Y= X-Google-Smtp-Source: AG47ELukmOCsrz96EzIqh9K76HUuBEzUljur7S1QI9qEZbAX4l/yjW7czF9l/ehFzaP/5ymChk6moEfGEXLBq1tGmFM= X-Received: by 10.46.92.65 with SMTP id q62mr13432318ljb.21.1521908899603; Sat, 24 Mar 2018 09:28:19 -0700 (PDT) MIME-Version: 1.0 Received: by 10.46.3.10 with HTTP; Sat, 24 Mar 2018 09:28:19 -0700 (PDT) From: Andreas Nilsson Date: Sat, 24 Mar 2018 17:28:19 +0100 Message-ID: Subject: Gemini pda / mediatek Helio X27 To: freebsd-arm@freebsd.org Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" X-Content-Filtered-By: Mailman/MimeDel 2.1.25 X-BeenThere: freebsd-arm@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.25 Precedence: list List-Id: "Porting FreeBSD to ARM processors." The same error crops up from time to time when pl2303 serial An RPI3 running r331146 reacted more drastically to the insertion of a USB 3.0 flash drive additional to the one holding /usr and /var; the console began to emit a flood of gibberish: =02=02=02=1A=EF=BF=BD`=06!=EF=BF=BD=EF=BF=BD=EF=BF=BDQsb"J=EF=BF=BD =EF=BF= =BD=EF=BF=BDB=EF=BF=BD=EF=BF=BD=EF=BF=BD=EF=BF=BDdevices... =EF=BF=BD=EF=BF= =BDm=EF=BF=BDo=EF=BF=BDT=EF=BF=BD=EF=BF=BD=EF=BF=BD=EF=BF=BDH=EF=BF=BD=EF= =BF=BD=EF=BF=BD=EF=BF=BD=EF=BF=BD=EF=BF=BD=EF=BF=BD=EF=BF=BD=EF=BF=BD=EF=BF= =BDHU=EF=BF=BDm=EF=BF=BD=EF=BF=BD** First descriptor=EF=BF=BD=EF=BF=BD=EF= =BF=BDOo]=EF=BF=BD=EF=BF=BD=EF=BF=BD=EF=BF=BD=EF=BF=BD=EF=BF=BD=EF=BF=BD=EF= =BF=BD=EF=BF=BDsc=EF=BF=BD=EF=BF=BDy=EF=BF=BD=EF=BF=BD=EF=BF=BDRRj=EF=BF=BD= 1 Storage Device(s) found s=EF=BF=BD0=EF=BF=BDH=EF=BF=BD=EF=BF=BD *=1C "=EF=BF=BDR =EF=BF=BD=EF=BF=BD=EF=BF=BDX=EF=BF=BDt Dev=EF= =BF=BD=EF=BF=BD=D6=B9.. 1 Ethernet Device(s) found Hit any key=EF=BF=BD}/=EF=BF=BD=EF=BF=BD=EF=BF=BD=EF=BF=BD/_K=EF=BF=BD}?=EF= =BF=BD=EF=BF=BD=EF=BF=BD which persisted across shutdown -r and momentary power cutoff. Removing pow= er=20 for a minute or two seems to have restored normal operation. Note the snipp= ets of clear text; the serial link isn't the culprit, it's working fine. The flash drive had been used as swap on a Raspbian system successfully, and had a vestigal partitioning scheme from a previous FreeBSD-current installation. However, it wasn't mounted in any way, just plugged in, to cause the upset seen above. I wanted to try using the flash drive as extra swap, per advice given elsewhere. Clearly that isn't going to work. The initial console text flooded off the terminal scrollback, so it couldn't be captured. The portion selected was meant mostly to relieve suspicions it was a serial malfunction of some kind, copied after several attempts to reboot. It was quite surprising to see the flood of nonsense persist after a shutdown -r now had been issued, and apparently acted upon (the controlling shell exited, but the console flood continued). The console flood came back after a quick power disconnect/reconnect, but finally stopped when the power was left off for a minute or so. Then all returned to normal. Thanks for reading! bob prohaska
