Product: Documentation Version: Latest Hardware: Any OS: Any Status: New Severity: Affects Some People Priority: --- Component: Documentation Assignee: freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.org Reporter: dgilbert@eicat.ca The story to here. In the beginning, the words were "recompile the kernel"= and the kernel was good. No. I'll stop that now. Anyways... to use a console other than COM1, you needed to recompile the kernel. At some point, the PR 169544 applied, that is you set hint.sio.n.f= lags to determine which port was console. This didn't work, so in UTSL fashion, I found (in /sys/dev/uart/uart_subr.c: /* * Check the environment variables "hw.uart.console" and * "hw.uart.dbgport". These variables, when present, specify * which UART port is to be used as serial console or debug * port (resp). */ switch (devtype) { case UART_DEV_CONSOLE: cp =3D kern_getenv("hw.uart.console"); break; case UART_DEV_DBGPORT: cp =3D kern_getenv("hw.uart.dbgport"); break; default: cp =3D NULL; break; } meaning that you put "hw.uart.console=3D1" in /boot/loader.conf and you get= COM2. This seems to default to 0 or COM1 (NULL =3D=3D 0, for the most part). I have verified that on 11.1-RELEASE, setting either hint.sio.* or hint.uar= t.* (because, at least as of 11.1-RELEASE, there are no hint.sio anymore) on AM= D64 ... DO NOT WORK. I have also verified hw.uart.console=3D1 in /boot/loader.conf does work. This would all be in reference to the documentation that lives at https://www.freebsd.org/doc/handbook/serialconsole-setup.html --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.= From owner-freebsd-doc@freebsd.org Mon Jan 29 20:34:29 2018 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-doc@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 1C3FDEDD3B1 for ; Mon, 29 Jan 2018 20:34:29 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from leolee@smttech.site) Received: from mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (mailman.ysv.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::50:5]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id A992884F8B for ; Mon, 29 Jan 2018 20:34:28 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from leolee@smttech.site) Received: by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) id 6D9B7EDD3B0; Mon, 29 Jan 2018 20:34:28 +0000 (UTC) Delivered-To: doc@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4989BEDD3AF for ; Mon, 29 Jan 2018 20:34:28 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from leolee@smttech.site) Received: from out29-94.mail.aliyun.com (out29-94.mail.aliyun.com [115.124.29.94]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client did not present a certificate) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 6C02484F89 for ; Mon, 29 Jan 2018 20:34:26 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from leolee@smttech.site) X-Alimail-AntiSpam: AC=AD; BC=0.7075285|0.1821025; BR=01201311R211b1; CH=blue; FP=9223045339339271784|2|1|2|0|-1|-1|-1; HT=e02c03296; MF=leolee@smttech.site; NM=1; PH=DS; RN=1; RT=1; SR=0; TI=SMTPD_---.AcBiLSY_1517257116; Received: from DESKTOP-SUPA2ML(mailfrom:leolee@smttech.site fp:113.91.38.70) by smtp.aliyun-inc.com(10.147.44.129); Tue, 30 Jan 2018 04:18:36 +0800 Message-ID: <20180130041836260.leolee@smttech.site> MIME-Version: 1.0 From: "Smart" To: "Doc" Reply-To: sales5@smartsecurityinfo.com Date: 30 Jan 2018 04:18:36 +0800 Subject: hidden camera for home use to Doc Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8 Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable X-Content-Filtered-By: Mailman/MimeDel 2.1.25 X-BeenThere: freebsd-doc@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.25 Precedence: list List-Id: Documentation project List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Mon, 29 Jan 2018 20:34:29 -0000 Hello Doc,Want see what happen when you are not at home? I know that you were using DNSCrypt in the past since you're still linking to it from here: freebsdwww.ludd.ltu.se/ports/dns.html . It used to be such a great tool, but sadly, it's no longer available. If you're interested in a replacement for that link, feel free to check out the DNSCrypt alternatives guide that I've recently composed. I think it could be a beneficial resource for your audience, if you agree, feel free to replace the broken link. :) Either way, thank you for your time! Cheers!
