I have no idea why as I have b= een running c7 for many months with no issues. The package database is always b= uilt with all defaults, so c6. A solution is to create a linux-c7-flashplayer which depends on linux_base-= c7. Otherwise it can be identical to the current port. An easy work-around is simply to build from the port. It's just a binary bl= ob so takes seconds to install the port. Another solution is to mark the port = as not to be packaged at all, but that would cause more issues than it's worth, especially with flash rapidly disappearing from the web. You might create a port adding: CONFLICTS=3D linux-flashplugin-[0-9]* and USES=3D linux:c7 and submit it. --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.= From owner-freebsd-emulation@freebsd.org Wed Aug 29 01:14:41 2018 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-emulation@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 37D38109D1B5 for ; Wed, 29 Aug 2018 01:14:41 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (mailman.ysv.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::50:5]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id C10B475D8C for ; Wed, 29 Aug 2018 01:14:40 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) id 82D4F109D1B4; Wed, 29 Aug 2018 01:14:40 +0000 (UTC) Delivered-To: emulation@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 717E0109D1B3 for ; Wed, 29 Aug 2018 01:14:40 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org (mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:3]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client CN "mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org", Issuer "Let's Encrypt Authority X3" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 00E0475D8A for ; Wed, 29 Aug 2018 01:14:40 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::16:76]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client did not present a certificate) by mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 5D20E27960 for ; Wed, 29 Aug 2018 01:14:39 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.118]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id w7T1EdCZ070646 for ; Wed, 29 Aug 2018 01:14:39 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: (from www@localhost) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2/Submit) id w7T1EdLV070645 for emulation@FreeBSD.org; Wed, 29 Aug 2018 01:14:39 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) X-Authentication-Warning: kenobi.freebsd.org: www set sender to bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org using -f From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: emulation@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 230986] www/linux-flashplayer: Separate c6 and c7? So it seems we should have separate c6 and c7 ports, as we used to with linux-c*-flashplugin. I was thinking of November, after FreeBSD 10 EoL, because I'm not sure FreeBSD 10 has all the kernel bits to run c7. Maybe we can already make the switch for 11 and 12 though. I don't see how chromium depends on linux_base by the way. It's not in the output of "make all-depends-list". I don't recall if linux_base-c6 was listed. Prior to moving to c7, I used the package to save 11-12 hours of build time on a port that I only rarely use. Making c7 default on 11 and 12, especially 12, seems like a good idea. Bacon from comment #6) Your point is valid, but this is the wrong forum as the problem is the packaging system. It expects to install a package on a system that has the exact versions of all dependencies that were used to build the package. Thi= s is important as it assures that there will be no differences that might impact= the performance of the package. and, of course, the packaging system assumes th= at the latest default dependencies are used. In the case of linux packages, that means c6 for 10 and 11. It seems likely that c7 might become the default at come point, hopefully in the near futur= e. Until that happens, I can't see any resolution of this problem. For me it w= ould mean using c6 and at least two ports that have vulnerabilities that I was informed were unlikely to be fixed in c6. (That was as of at least a year a= go, so may be no longer true.) Sorry, but I don't think that there is a solution available. --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.= From owner-freebsd-emulation@freebsd.org Thu Aug 30 23:35:35 2018 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-emulation@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 50335EFBEFE for ; Thu, 30 Aug 2018 23:35:35 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (mailman.ysv.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::50:5]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id E879B77465 for ; Thu, 30 Aug 2018 23:35:34 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) id A1728EFBEFD; Thu, 30 Aug 2018 23:35:34 +0000 (UTC) Delivered-To: emulation@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 8E333EFBEFC for ; Thu, 30 Aug 2018 23:35:34 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org (mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:3]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client CN "mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org", Issuer "Let's Encrypt Authority X3" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 283247745E for ; Thu, 30 Aug 2018 23:35:34 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::16:76]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client did not present a certificate) by mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 6E3281A98C for ; Thu, 30 Aug 2018 23:35:33 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.118]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id w7UNZXL4016545 for ; Thu, 30 Aug 2018 23:35:33 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: (from www@localhost) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2/Submit) id w7UNZXhF016544 for emulation@FreeBSD.org; Thu, 30 Aug 2018 23:35:33 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) X-Authentication-Warning: kenobi.freebsd.org: www set sender to bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org using -f From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: emulation@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 230986] www/linux-flashplayer: Separate c6 and c7? As to why not c6, I moved to c7 because of two ports that had known vulnerabilities and, since c6 was no longer getting security fixes, c7 was = the obvious solution. That c6 was no longer getting updates was not confirmed by me. I just know that one of the vulnerable ports had been there for well ov= er a year. --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.= From owner-freebsd-emulation@freebsd.org Fri Aug 31 00:11:02 2018 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-emulation@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id C781BEFCA37 for ; Fri, 31 Aug 2018 00:11:02 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (mailman.ysv.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::50:5]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 5820F783E3 for ; Fri, 31 Aug 2018 00:11:02 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) id 1440EEFCA36; Fri, 31 Aug 2018 00:11:02 +0000 (UTC) Delivered-To: emulation@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id E65E0EFCA35 for ; Fri, 31 Aug 2018 00:11:01 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org (mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:3]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client CN "mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org", Issuer "Let's Encrypt Authority X3" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 90B67783E1 for ; Fri, 31 Aug 2018 00:11:01 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::16:76]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client did not present a certificate) by mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id D038F1ADBB for ; Fri, 31 Aug 2018 00:11:00 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.118]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id w7V0B0qu015614 for ; Fri, 31 Aug 2018 00:11:00 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: (from www@localhost) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2/Submit) id w7V0B0T3015609 for emulation@FreeBSD.org; Fri, 31 Aug 2018 00:11:00 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) X-Authentication-Warning: kenobi.freebsd.org: www set sender to bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org using -f From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: emulation@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 230986] www/linux-flashplayer: Separate c6 and c7? Bacon --- CentOS 6 is nearing EOL and support from vendors is already waning. We nee= d to make c7 practical for average users to manage before that happens, so it ca= n be well tested before becoming the default. I don't much care what the solution looks like, but I think it's important = that people can choose freely between c6 and c7, and safely run a pkg upgrade in either case. I'll explore using flavors instead of separate ports. The only major shortcoming with c7 is the lack of binary packages for flashplayer and comparable ports, so any solution that gets both c6 and c7 variants of the packages into the repo would be satisfactory from my perspective. I think it would be ideal if the system tried to build c6 and c7 flavors by default (unless otherwise specified), as it does with python 2 & 3. I susp= ect some people will want to stick with c6 for some time after EOL for their own valid reasons, so it will be important for both c6 and c7 to be well suppor= ted for a while. Many of us need to move onto c7 in the near future, though. We will not lo= nger be running any real CentOS 6 systems after 2018. I'm beginning to test a variety of engineering apps from ANSYS, Biovia, etc= . I know linux compatibility is not a high priority for most FreeBSD users, but we're in a good position right now to polish it up and make FreeBSD a more viable platform for running commercial apps. 64-bit support and c7 are work= ing pretty well now, and RHEL/CentOS 7 are still young. Any investment we make= in improving the system now will have a lasting benefit for the next several years. --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.= From owner-freebsd-emulation@freebsd.org Fri Aug 31 02:23:25 2018 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-emulation@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 9FCB2EFF811 for ;
