When trying to build 8.4.3 with the 8.4.2 shipped with pkg I get the follow= ing error. /usr/bin/ld: error: duplicate symbol: StackOverflowHook >>> defined at hschooks.c >>> ghc/stage1/build/hschooks.o:(StackOverflowHook) >>> defined at OSMem.c >>> RTS.o:(.text.StackOverflowHook+0x0) in archive /usr/local/li= b/ghc-8.4.2/rts/libHSrts.a This happens because of the way the libHSrts.a (etc) has been linked and I'm the one to blame for this since I introduced that issue in GHC. As I said, a fix for this is under way. This is probably affecting other people as well (I just got notified by som= eone else having similar issues). You can check if the RTS is build the working way by checking it with `nm` = like so: nm libHSrts.a If the archive only contains one object file (e.g. RTS.o) that build won't = for building other ghcs. --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.= From owner-freebsd-haskell@freebsd.org Mon Jun 4 09:43:41 2018 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-haskell@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 8CC0EFED0FB for ; Mon, 4 Jun 2018 09:43:41 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (mailman.ysv.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::50:5]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 2648B7D28A for ; Mon, 4 Jun 2018 09:43:41 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) id DAFF6FED0F5; Mon, 4 Jun 2018 09:43:40 +0000 (UTC) Delivered-To: haskell@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id C97E8FED0F4 for ; Mon, 4 Jun 2018 09:43:40 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org (mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:3]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client CN "mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org", Issuer "Let's Encrypt Authority X3" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 68E2C7D286 for ; Mon, 4 Jun 2018 09:43:40 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::16:76]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client did not present a certificate) by mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id A75B1B7CA for ; Mon, 4 Jun 2018 09:43:39 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.118]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id w549hdpO025130 for ; Mon, 4 Jun 2018 09:43:39 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: (from www@localhost) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2/Submit) id w549hd9n025129 for haskell@FreeBSD.org; Mon, 4 Jun 2018 09:43:39 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) X-Authentication-Warning: kenobi.freebsd.org: www set sender to bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org using -f From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: haskell@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 228727] lang/ghc cannot be used as a bootstrap compiler Date: Mon, 04 Jun 2018 09:43:39 +0000 X-Bugzilla-Reason: AssignedTo X-Bugzilla-Type: changed X-Bugzilla-Watch-Reason: None X-Bugzilla-Product: Ports & Packages X-Bugzilla-Component: Individual Port(s) X-Bugzilla-Version: Latest X-Bugzilla-Keywords: X-Bugzilla-Severity: Affects Many People X-Bugzilla-Who: arrowd@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Status: Open X-Bugzilla-Resolution: X-Bugzilla-Priority: --- X-Bugzilla-Assigned-To: haskell@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Flags: maintainer-feedback? As I mentioned before: I currently have a patch in review that fixes this. One option would be to backport the patch once it has been accepted (It's really just a couple of changes in the rts makefile). But to be really safe turnin= g it off for the binary shipped with pkg currently sounds like the best idea (I = for one depend on that to work for bootstrapping quite a lot). I'll test drive = the patch for a couple of months to see if it causes any further issues. If everything works out as expected it'll be safe to turn on dtrace support in 8.6.1 or even within the 8.4 line. --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.= From owner-freebsd-haskell@freebsd.org Mon Jun 4 11:03:58 2018 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-haskell@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 86ABAFF5165 for ; Mon, 4 Jun 2018 11:03:58 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (mailman.ysv.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::50:5]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 1828F806D3 for ; Mon, 4 Jun 2018 11:03:58 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) id CCD41FF515F; Mon, 4 Jun 2018 11:03:57 +0000 (UTC) Delivered-To: haskell@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id BB620FF515C for ; Mon, 4 Jun 2018 11:03:57 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org (mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:3]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client CN "mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org", Issuer "Let's Encrypt Authority X3" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 5A2EC806C5 for ; Mon, 4 Jun 2018 11:03:57 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::16:76]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client did not present a certificate) by mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 99786C47E for ; Mon, 4 Jun 2018 11:03:56 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.118]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id w54B3ujG048381 for ; Mon, 4 Jun 2018 11:03:56 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: (from bugzilla@localhost) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2/Submit) id w54B3utE048380 for haskell@FreeBSD.org; Mon, 4 Jun 2018 11:03:56 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) X-Authentication-Warning: kenobi.freebsd.org: bugzilla set sender to bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org using -f From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: haskell@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 228727] lang/ghc cannot be used as a bootstrap compiler Date: Mon, 04 Jun 2018 11:03:55 +0000 X-Bugzilla-Reason: AssignedTo X-Bugzilla-Type: changed X-Bugzilla-Watch-Reason: None X-Bugzilla-Product: Ports & Packages X-Bugzilla-Component: Individual Port(s) X-Bugzilla-Version: Latest X-Bugzilla-Keywords: X-Bugzilla-Severity: Affects Many People X-Bugzilla-Who: commit-hook@freebsd.org X-Bugzilla-Status: Open X-Bugzilla-Resolution: X-Bugzilla-Priority: --- X-Bugzilla-Assigned-To: haskell@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Flags: maintainer-feedback?
