(This is in response to Mathieu mat@'s request.) There is one casualty, the unmaintained graphics/ampasCTL port. There is no port that requires ampasCTL. The upstream site https://github.com/ampas/CTL has apparently not seen code updates in c. 5 years. Getting the port to go anywhere with modern OpenEXR and pkg-config required some cmake hacking (included in the patch above) to unroll semicolon/;-lists in cmake, but there are further C++ incompatibilities in EXR data types. The patch above therefore marks ampasCTL as BROKEN, and we should probably also mark it for expiration and perhaps graphics/ampasACES-container, too. ## portmgr ## I figured that mail systems were getting in my way on the MAINTAINER= addresses in some places with "you are not subscribed" or "too many recipients" on kde@, or thereabouts, we can't have MAINTAINER= addresses break mass communication like that, for sweeping updates that's an obstacle. I seek portmgr@ approval until Sept 21st for substitute approval in advance in case group (kde@ gnome@ multimedia@...) maintainers are unreached or do not respond in due time. The update to the respective ports _DEPENDS lines is +++ REQUIRED +++ to keep ilmbase or openexr dependees building. I intend to commit in the European afternoon hours of Sept 23rd (probably somewhen between 11:00 and 16:00 h UTC). The proposed schedule leaves us one week before 2018Q4 to sort out unforeseen fall-out, or worst case, a roll-back until after the branch point. Best regards Matthias I wrote on 2018-09-09: > Greetings fellow porters, > > Each of you maintain one or more ports that directly depends on ilmbase > and/or OpenEXR, which are high-profile ports. > There are c. four dozen ports that depend directly on ilmbase and/or > OpenEXR, with indirect dependencies the entire list amounts to ~500 > affected ports. > > I intend to update the graphics/ilmbase and graphics/OpenEXR port to > v2.3.0, which brings shared library version bumps, and you may have to > update your ports' *_DEPENDS lines to chase the ilmbase/OpenEXR version > bumps accordingly. > Spot checks of the new ports with gegl, gegl3, darktable did not show > compile-time issues if the *_DEPENDS is updated and the port recompiled. > > I want to coordinate the update with you so your ports do not break, but > I do NOT intend to keep multiple versions of ilmbase/OpenEXR around. > > I need your input regarding the OpenEXR port upgrade on these items: > > 1. do we need an -exp run? No, you do not commit stuff and fix the fallout afterwards (or hope someone will fix it for you, not sure what you are meaning here). You can submit a patch for exp-run, and work on fixing the fallout before you can commit your patch. Once everything is ok to go, you will be allowed to commit your patch. > Best regards > Matthias >=20 >=20 > I wrote on 2018-09-09: > > Greetings fellow porters, > >=20 > > Each of you maintain one or more ports that directly depends on ilmbase > > and/or OpenEXR, which are high-profile ports. > > There are c. four dozen ports that depend directly on ilmbase and/or > > OpenEXR, with indirect dependencies the entire list amounts to ~500 > > affected ports. > >=20 > > I intend to update the graphics/ilmbase and graphics/OpenEXR port to > > v2.3.0, which brings shared library version bumps, and you may have to > > update your ports' *_DEPENDS lines to chase the ilmbase/OpenEXR version > > bumps accordingly. > > Spot checks of the new ports with gegl, gegl3, darktable did not show > > compile-time issues if the *_DEPENDS is updated and the port recompiled. > >=20 > > I want to coordinate the update with you so your ports do not break, but > > I do NOT intend to keep multiple versions of ilmbase/OpenEXR around. > >=20 > > I need your input regarding the OpenEXR port upgrade on these items: > >=20 > > 1. do we need an -exp run? This list you are asking about is empty, but you never know what happens with sweeping changes in the field after the fact, that's why I am pushing forward. We don't want a high-profile port diverging between quarterly and head, and we don't want to duplicate fix efforts right after the branch. I have compile-tested all ports in poudriere 11.2-RELEASE amd64 that have a direct dependency on ilmbase or OpenEXR listed that is either mandatory, or an option that defaults to "ON". The only casualty is the unmaintained (upstream and ports) graphics/ampasCTL (see below why) and none of the *kde* or *qt* ports have broken or killed ports that require them. I may take one or two more stabs at ampasCTL to see if it turns out to be low-hanging fruit. My call is "check if you have any concerns about my proposed update to ilmbase/OpenEXR and the OpenEXR -> openexr rename". The proposed update is the one I provide as patch, not the earlier shar file. If you are keeping an outside private KDE repository, you may have to merge my patch into your private kde@ repository once I commit, and test your own ports that depend on ilmbase/openexr before you commit your tree back to the FreeBSD ports repository. NOTE: I think I do not formally need to ask approval about PORTREVISION bumps and bumps to requisite library changes, we do not normally do that. I do want to coordinate nonetheless, and I'll happily receive approvals. I just can't afford to spend hours on end to chase down everybody behind mail exploders. I believe I've done a thorough job of testing the builds and direct dependents, and if someone wants to do a full -exp run, use the patch from my previous message, URIs repeated below for convenience: - https://people.freebsd.org/~mandree/openexr-v2.patch - https://people.freebsd.org/~mandree/openexr-v2.patch.asc (GnuPG sign.) Note that OpenEXR is not formally advertised as incompatible, what I found out so far is: * "Iex::BaseExc no longer derived from std::string." is what appears to have broken ampasCTL because it can't seem to std::cout << ... those data types any more and I get a truckload of excuses why none of the candidates is viable for automatic type conversion. Haven't yet dug deeper, but I don't consider an unmaintained (upstream & downstream) leaf port as sitting in the critical path anyways, we can fix it after the fact (and the fix could also be MFHd from head to quarterly without ado since it's unbreaking a broken port, hence pre-approved). I'm a bit surprized to see these "you must ask for approval from everyone" replies. OpenEXR ports had needed love for a long time and we should be grateful that someone had finally decided to bite the bullet, esp. someone who knows this shit. ./danfe P.S. I had checked out the ports tree earlier this week and ran poudriere on all direct and indirect dependencies, no new casualties, two ignores (one of them was ampasCTL), but hadn't let libreoffice complete. Result: two ignored ports, libreoffice suffered the user abort, all other ports could be built, so I'll forego the -exp run for good, no fails, no skips. One ignored port was a KDE4 port that was already marked broken on 11.2 due to wanting kernel internals, and as to the other ignored one, it was graphics/ampasCTL (unmaintained). I could -after the poudriere test run- fix the latter port for ilmbase 2.3.0 compatibility with a one-liner patch to ampasCTL in the C++ exception propagation that turns a caught exception "e" into "e.what()", to substitute for the missing auto-conversion method from the Iex::BaseExc into std::string. This changes matches what one of the unit tests does. The fix will, of course, be added to the commit, and has been posted upstream, https://github.com/ampas/CTL/issues/71 -- although I do not believe anyone there will care. I'll retry to rebuild all ilmbase/OpenEXR dependants with a newly updated ports tree and commit if no new casualties show up. If anyone knows a trick to have VirtualBox 5.2.x on an amd64 alias x86_64 Linux host (Fedora 28) expose all Ryzen 7 1700 SMT logical CPUs to a FreeBSD 11.2 guest, let me know - I only see 8 of the 16 in VirtualBox, but do get 16 natively. The extpack is installed.
