Other than that, the problem looks similar, but sometimes in different poin= ts. So, I am wondering if there is an issue related to out-of-order execution or something in this area. It seems the problem also hit long running applications as a heavily git cl= one, thus, I would say this is not necessarily a GCC issue. It might be a heavy-workload kind of issue. --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.= From owner-freebsd-ppc@freebsd.org Tue Feb 6 12:46:46 2018 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-ppc@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 5D20AEF6859 for ; Tue, 6 Feb 2018 12:46:46 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:6074::16:84]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client CN "freefall.freebsd.org", Issuer "Let's Encrypt Authority X3" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 07A5C8751A for ; Tue, 6 Feb 2018 12:46:46 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: by freefall.freebsd.org (Postfix) id DB4411545A; Tue, 6 Feb 2018 12:46:45 +0000 (UTC) Delivered-To: freebsd-powerpc@localmail.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [96.47.72.80]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client CN "mx1.freebsd.org", Issuer "Let's Encrypt Authority X3" (verified OK)) by freefall.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id D73EB15459 for ; Tue, 6 Feb 2018 12:46:45 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org (mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:3]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client CN "mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org", Issuer "Let's Encrypt Authority X3" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id A934087516 for ; Tue, 6 Feb 2018 12:46:45 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::16:76]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client did not present a certificate) by mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id CEAAF159C1 for ; Tue, 6 Feb 2018 12:46:44 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.118]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id w16CkiqQ099468 for ; Tue, 6 Feb 2018 12:46:44 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: (from www@localhost) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2/Submit) id w16Ckil4099467 for freebsd-powerpc@FreeBSD.org; Tue, 6 Feb 2018 12:46:44 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) X-Authentication-Warning: kenobi.freebsd.org: www set sender to bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org using -f From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: freebsd-powerpc@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 225629] lang/gcc5: Fails to build on powerpc64 (POWER9) Date: Tue, 06 Feb 2018 12:46:44 +0000 X-Bugzilla-Reason: CC X-Bugzilla-Type: changed X-Bugzilla-Watch-Reason: None X-Bugzilla-Product: Ports & Packages X-Bugzilla-Component: Individual Port(s) X-Bugzilla-Version: Latest X-Bugzilla-Keywords: X-Bugzilla-Severity: Affects Only Me X-Bugzilla-Who: breno.leitao@gmail.com X-Bugzilla-Status: New X-Bugzilla-Resolution: X-Bugzilla-Priority: --- X-Bugzilla-Assigned-To: andreast@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Flags: X-Bugzilla-Changed-Fields: Message-ID: In-Reply-To: References: Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable X-Bugzilla-URL: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/ Auto-Submitted: auto-generated MIME-Version: 1.0 X-BeenThere: freebsd-ppc@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.25 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the PowerPC List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Tue, 06 Feb 2018 12:46:46 -0000 https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=3D225629 --- Comment #10 from Breno Leitao --- This is a possible indication that the problem is not gcc related only. It's likely aging hardware, you might want to run the Apple diagnostics, or perform a load test with OS X, that might point you to any hardware failures. - Justin On Wed, Feb 7, 2018 at 11:14 AM, Rob Ballantyne wrote: > Hi All, > > I had a quick search of the bugs.freebsd.org database and couldn't find > anything but I wasn't sure I was searching properly. > > I'm having my G5 Quad shutdown while trying to compile packages after a > fresh 11.1 install. I have heard that you could fix the problem by replacing the cpus with ones that are IBM branded and they would run cooler. I have not tried this, so I can't say from personal experience that it works. Does anyone know if there is another trick to get it to boot AHT that I'm missing? Perhaps I need a more modern Tiger version? If someone has a newer install disk I can borrow for a day or two just contact me privately. Thanks! Assuming you mean 32-bit PowerPC, I'm running 12.0-CURRENT r302710 (that is pre-ino64 and pre-64-bit-time_t) with no software-related problems. There is one hardware-related problem, but that's not Apple's fault: I'm using SATA-IDE adapter (this allows to use larger HDDs instead of 320GB WD Blue, the largest 2.5" IDE drive available on the market) and it often would fail to boot and I have to power-cycle the machine a few times until it passes through. Sometimes (rarely) it fails during heavy disk activity (e.g. building ports in the tinderbox). On-board NIC and USB work fine, even sound works, but there's no mixer so it's not easily possible to control the volume. ./danfe From owner-freebsd-ppc@freebsd.org Thu Feb 8 06:18:41 2018 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-ppc@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 8F63CF067F6 for ; Thu, 8 Feb 2018 06:18:41 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from danfe@regency.nsu.ru) Received: from mx.nsu.ru (mx.nsu.ru [84.237.50.39]) (using TLSv1 with cipher AES256-SHA (256/256 bits)) (Client did not present a certificate) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 155B375682 for ; Thu, 8 Feb 2018 06:18:40 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from danfe@regency.nsu.ru) Received: from Debian-exim by mx.nsu.ru with local (Exim 4.72) (envelope-from ) id 1ejfXa-0007kQ-2s for freebsd-ppc@freebsd.org; Thu, 08 Feb 2018 13:18:38 +0700 Received: from [84.237.50.47] (helo=regency.nsu.ru) by mx.nsu.ru with esmtp (Exim 4.72) (envelope-from ) id 1ejfXZ-0007k8-To; Thu, 08 Feb 2018 13:18:37 +0700 Received: from regency.nsu.ru (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by regency.nsu.ru (8.14.2/8.14.2) with ESMTP id w186Vx5l016424; Thu, 8 Feb 2018 12:31:59 +0600 (NOVT) (envelope-from danfe@regency.nsu.ru) Received: (from danfe@localhost) by regency.nsu.ru (8.14.2/8.14.2/Submit) id w186Vrh1016326; Thu, 8 Feb 2018 13:31:53 +0700 (+07) (envelope-from danfe) Date: Thu, 8 Feb 2018 13:31:53 +0700 From: Alexey Dokuchaev To: Al Zick Cc: FreeBSD PowerPC ML Subject: Re: Best Hardware Message-ID: <20180208063153.GB63726@regency.nsu.ru> References: <6351A95F-C3CC-4ECD-82D0-9DF00DD75D8B@familysafeinternet.com> <20180208062644.GA63726@regency.nsu.ru> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline In-Reply-To: <20180208062644.GA63726@regency.nsu.ru> User-Agent: Mutt/1.4.2.1i X-KLMS-Rule-ID: 3 X-KLMS-Message-Action: skipped X-KLMS-AntiSpam-Status: not scanned, whitelist X-KLMS-AntiPhishing: not scanned, whitelist X-KLMS-AntiVirus: Kaspersky Security 8.0 for Linux Mail Server, version 8.0.1.705, not scanned, whitelist X-BeenThere: freebsd-ppc@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.25 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the PowerPC List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Thu, 08 Feb 2018 06:18:41 -0000 On Thu, Feb 08, 2018 at 01:26:44PM +0700, Alexey Dokuchaev wrote: > On Wed, Feb 07, 2018 at 05:09:54PM -0500, Al Zick wrote: > > Hi, > > > > What is the best hardware for running FreeBSD on PPC? > > Assuming you mean 32-bit PowerPC, I'm running 12.0-CURRENT r302710... The reason I am asking is because I have a G3 Blue & White in a data center. I really want to upgrade the OS on it. I was thinking of trying FreeBSD on a G3 that I have at home to see how it does on it. Really, in the end, I would like to replace all my web servers with X5000s. I am also hoping they will complete the open source powerpc notebook project.
