We could certainly use /usr/share/examples/pf/pf.conf as the 'default' pf.c= onf, as it's all commented out and it already refers to the man pages and the examples in /usr/share/examples/pf. It's probably better to update the documentation though, and do the same fo= r pf as for ipf: no default config, but point at the examples from the documentation. --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.= From owner-freebsd-doc@freebsd.org Mon Mar 11 01:11:56 2019 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-doc@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 5176715269AC for ; What I remember is that various kernels could be kept at the same time in /boot; and the generic kernel initially appeared there as one = of them. So if one had only the generic kernel installed, it would be present as /boot/GENERIC. I could be wrong here. At the moment, my actual kernel is in /boot/kernel/kernel; there is no kern= el at all in /boot, as indicated by the doc. I have another kernel in /boot/kernel.old/kernel Both of these are generic kernels, but one of them is the initial one and t= he other is one with binary patches applied as a result of the update process. I don't know if there is a way of telling if they are actually generic kern= els; certainly not by name. There is nothing in the /boot tree named GENERIC. Since I'm not building source, /usr/obj is empty. --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.= From owner-freebsd-doc@freebsd.org Tue Mar 12 17:04:13 2019 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-doc@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 5FC801536E33 for ; charset=utf-8 Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Hi, thank you for wanting to help with translations. The FreeBSD Project Primer [1] has all the information you are looking for to get started. Begin with the "Quick Start" section [2] to set up your work environment. Once you have that (if you get stuck somewhere along the way, let us know), continue on to the "Translations" [3] and "PO Translations" chapters. I'd recommend starting with a small chapter so that you can see quick results and don't get overwhelmed. There are also web tools that help with the translation part of things that had some good results for other language projects. If you have further questions, get in touch and we'll try to help. You can also find people on #bsddocs on IRC EFNet. FreeBSD removed the default /etc/pf.conf file in previous releases, but the documentation kept mentioning it like any other file present in the system. Change pf.conf(5) to mention in the description of the default ruleset location that this file needs to be created manually. Also, the default rc.conf file had it's comment extended a bit to let people know that this file does not exist by default. In the daemon(8) man page I noticed a discrepancy in the default syslog pri= ority as explained with the command line options. The -S (upper case s) opt= ion states that the default priority is notice, and the -s (lower case s) s= ays info. The latter is wrong, i.e. the correct default syslog priority is = notice. >From the daemon(8) man page: -S Enable syslog output. This is implicitly applied if other sys= log parameters are provided. The default values are daemon, notic= e, and daemon for facility, priority, and tag, respectively. ... -s syslog_priority These priorities are accepted: emerg, alert, crit, err, warnin= g, notice, info, and debug. The default is info. The original problem is that the manpage references /boot/GENERIC as a kern= el, and that file does not exist anymore. So that's the main thing that needs = to be fixed. Assuming that part is fixed, then yes, it would be good to say something ab= out how one can tell if the installed kernel, /boot/kernel/kernel, is a GENERIC one, given that freebsd-update only works with GENERIC kernels. As you poi= nt out, that's pretty easy with uname. If it's possible to find out about ker= nels other than the installed one, that might be useful as well. I don't have a clue how to do that. --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.=
