Since the source repository has a history of nearly 20+ years, I would recommended that we keep that CNAME for at least this period of time alive. When we did the CVS -> SVN cutover, CVS was gone within a couple of years (I don't have the exact timeline handy). The data will be available for sure. We'll do our best to make sure the links work, but if that proves to be too difficult, we may drop them. The svn server will run for a few years still, at least to the end of 12.x branch. If the service is getting retired a little script could be used that translate the URI parameters (of the subversin revision numbers) to the new github frontend. I could write this script if nobody steps up. --Gordon From owner-freebsd-git@freebsd.org Wed Oct 14 23:28:00 2020 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-git@mailman.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 00DE34455C5 for ; Wed, 14 Oct 2020 23:28:00 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from wlosh@bsdimp.com) Received: from mail-qk1-x72b.google.com (mail-qk1-x72b.google.com [IPv6:2607:f8b0:4864:20::72b]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_128_GCM_SHA256 (128/128 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256 client-signature RSA-PSS (2048 bits) client-digest SHA256) (Client CN "smtp.gmail.com", Issuer "GTS CA 1O1" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 4CBT9V6hmpz4Z0n for ; Wed, 14 Oct 2020 23:27:58 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from wlosh@bsdimp.com) Received: by mail-qk1-x72b.google.com with SMTP id h140so956662qke.7 for ; Wed, 14 Oct 2020 16:27:58 -0700 (PDT) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=bsdimp-com.20150623.gappssmtp.com; s=20150623; h=mime-version:references:in-reply-to:from:date:message-id:subject:to :cc; bh=+qJIpk1L1MoCJEZNHZcZuTVikk49BkftfRac+uz9Heg=; b=PW8pq7RKkfhQ4hECmDZ+tXipPIXopSHpc8+Bntdisz4hGFtuKekvvX0RfL21YOM2XZ clYGGEY6rfRKIof17uwAnJWrIfvQgLhT++xLgZ9q1VQzvvkU0nxGJFSF9KmRLI1RzKQM 4bK5Gf9Ee+YLLzWkXRFvmE3WXxXHxBn9vU52pXpyj5zx6dw4GwCaXg2wzcdeRbUI9pvu za23RHI6NBD++Vx+CbHzklckpLDfZT/4pyaad6Y1rwyvcNnXeOJcaeNQnMotIAhaYRCG t0Qq6F32/eVsqp0qwWPXjq9Z9rd3TNwf9I5NMy5vONolw4vSJzOJgr+qH88tQ16Khdvk sNdg== X-Google-DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=1e100.net; s=20161025; h=x-gm-message-state:mime-version:references:in-reply-to:from:date :message-id:subject:to:cc; bh=+qJIpk1L1MoCJEZNHZcZuTVikk49BkftfRac+uz9Heg=; b=UnXsb+cdXNQvemVkhMINup1q/i9EyODt/0nhbz/4I0hUtld3jbxT7ojl22dMTupDrY VGcfrnLFHHMhc/63NWrQ6H1DVubMewrAe8LSmqx6uiKLVmnycxr9WlPvoYaDNx1phXod 7Off3vO1q81iP0CemZ/yIpGkRzO0qXVUORlwZv08DyHhTOo6IC6FJYbjTZFk0Hr3LKmO qVrj8ta555/JjEIT7d38IsjFuIyNv6mH3bQ15XeIoi8DKwpIZ022ac2yjg0IFzJzq2Ff CBXl/8hK0f9CXO2xMH9CGmGqLWqKGJifmpDumnpay3QyxHuxTDxAEfGcCDdIbIHnDyQs otvQ== X-Gm-Message-State: AOAM5331Joq93NKZXpDFeln66aog1eahn3mUk5HBen8DMdBi/+TVKAIe c4xJL8Pk5+C3QMYGzS7fwwoBpI5AZ6/aGAaFrE0EXA== X-Google-Smtp-Source: ABdhPJzFvz5IGa5YHBvas0dvbMS9UqWbQonyBL4NBA7d6lNzjIfqSVuqymqUZIVSp8Y+e1lREipcL7zkWwuUcPeAF8E= X-Received: by 2002:a05:620a:15a9:: with SMTP id f9mr1457055qkk.359.1602718078064; Wed, 14 Oct 2020 16:27:58 -0700 (PDT) MIME-Version: 1.0 References: <20201014174214.GA66478@lion.0xfce3.net> <20201014175721.GA73584@lion.0xfce3.net> <20201014180916.GA76192@lion.0xfce3.net> In-Reply-To: <20201014180916.GA76192@lion.0xfce3.net> From: Warner Losh Date: Wed, 14 Oct 2020 17:27:47 -0600 Message-ID: Subject: Re: svnweb persistence To: Gordon Bergling Cc: freebsd-git@freebsd.org X-Rspamd-Queue-Id: 4CBT9V6hmpz4Z0n X-Spamd-Bar: -- Authentication-Results: mx1.freebsd.org; dkim=pass header.d=bsdimp-com.20150623.gappssmtp.com header.s=20150623 header.b=PW8pq7RK; dmarc=none; spf=none (mx1.freebsd.org: domain of wlosh@bsdimp.com has no SPF policy when checking 2607:f8b0:4864:20::72b) smtp.mailfrom=wlosh@bsdimp.com X-Spamd-Result: default: False [-2.41 / 15.00]; RCVD_TLS_ALL(0.00)[]; ARC_NA(0.00)[]; R_DKIM_ALLOW(-0.20)[bsdimp-com.20150623.gappssmtp.com:s=20150623]; NEURAL_HAM_MEDIUM(-0.95)[-0.945]; FROM_HAS_DN(0.00)[]; TO_DN_SOME(0.00)[]; NEURAL_HAM_LONG(-0.97)[-0.971]; MIME_GOOD(-0.10)[multipart/alternative,text/plain]; PREVIOUSLY_DELIVERED(0.00)[freebsd-git@freebsd.org]; DMARC_NA(0.00)[bsdimp.com]; TO_MATCH_ENVRCPT_SOME(0.00)[]; DKIM_TRACE(0.00)[bsdimp-com.20150623.gappssmtp.com:+]; RCPT_COUNT_TWO(0.00)[2]; RCVD_IN_DNSWL_NONE(0.00)[2607:f8b0:4864:20::72b:from]; NEURAL_HAM_SHORT(-0.49)[-0.494]; R_SPF_NA(0.00)[no SPF record]; FORGED_SENDER(0.30)[imp@bsdimp.com,wlosh@bsdimp.com]; MIME_TRACE(0.00)[0:+,1:+,2:~]; ASN(0.00)[asn:15169, ipnet:2607:f8b0::/32, country:US]; FROM_NEQ_ENVFROM(0.00)[imp@bsdimp.com,wlosh@bsdimp.com]; MAILMAN_DEST(0.00)[freebsd-git]; RCVD_COUNT_TWO(0.00)[2] Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" X-Content-Filtered-By: Mailman/MimeDel 2.1.33 X-BeenThere: freebsd-git@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.33 Precedence: list List-Id: Discussion of git use in the FreeBSD project List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Wed, 14 Oct 2020 23:28:00 -0000 On Wed, Oct 14, 2020 at 12:09 PM Gordon Bergling wrote: > On Wed, Oct 14, 2020 at 12:02:45PM -0600, Warner Losh wrote: > > On Wed, Oct 14, 2020 at 11:57 AM Gordon Bergling > wrote: > > > > > On Wed, Oct 14, 2020 at 11:44:56AM -0600, Warner Losh wrote: > > > > On Wed, Oct 14, 2020 at 11:42 AM Gordon Bergling > > > wrote: > > > > > regarding the upcoming switch from subversion to git.
