When it happens, video playback ten= ds to 'hang' (apparently can't write to the dsp device) and mplayer reports th= at audio is "locked up". reboot to fix (snd_hda is apparently compiled in, ca= n't kldunload or otherwise reset audio system). Easiest way to trigger it: a) run virtualbox 5.2.34 with pulseaudio for sound on the VM (requires compiling it in) b) using a windows 7 VM, play anything that does multimedia [skippy audio, different problem most likely]. Let it run until audio stops working. After this, nothing else can access audio, either. This was happening with a 7/15/2019 kernel [forget which build number]. I recently updated to the latest 12-stable. So= und has been working all along since I built it last year, and no other notable problems observed. Unfortunately I have seen this audio problem happen in = at least one other case as well, after the system had been running for over a month without a reboot, so it may not be related to pulse audio at all. however, the installed version of pulse audio is: pulseaudio-12.2_5 (I shall grab the latest port version of this to see if it helps) here is the dmesg output on last reboot Copyright (c) 1992-2020 The FreeBSD Project. (both with the stock ums driver and iichid's usbhid+hms) IRQs of the hdac and one of the xhcis are next to each other but that proba= bly doesn't have anything do to with anything.. right? irq71: xhci2 778144 24 irq72: hdac1 172458 5 Also, sometimes toggling back to polling=3D0 just works. Trying to google related things.. apparently Linux automatically (!) switch= es to polling mode https://alsa-devel.alsa-project.narkive.com/ZfY6zFlv/2-6-33-rc3-hda-works-i= n-polling-mode More recent example with the codec I have (ALC892) https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3D101501 shows that Linux can a= lso auto disable MSI o_0 And Linux forces polling mode on Intel Coffee Lake: https://lore.kernel.org/patchwork/patch/892159/ saying that polling mode is= not too bad. Well, on FreeBSD it causes this funny mouse thing for me. So I guess there's no "real fix" for drivers, the hardware is just crap (as usual with Realtek) and all we can do is auto-reset and/or auto-fallback-to-polling. --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.= From owner-freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Fri Apr 3 00:49:04 2020 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-multimedia@mailman.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 0324426DCAE for ; Fri, 3 Apr 2020 00:49:04 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (unknown [127.0.1.3]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 48thC26bmTz4Cf1 for ; Fri, 3 Apr 2020 00:49:02 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: by mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) id CAF5426DC99; Fri, 3 Apr 2020 00:48:54 +0000 (UTC) Delivered-To: multimedia@mailman.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id CA7A126DC98 for ; Fri, 3 Apr 2020 00:48:54 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:3]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-digest SHA256) (Client CN "mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org", Issuer "Let's Encrypt Authority X3" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 48thBq35xXz4CbD for ; Fri, 3 Apr 2020 00:48:51 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::50:1d]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits)) (Client did not present a certificate) by mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 14A592304A for ; Fri, 3 Apr 2020 00:48:42 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.5]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id 0330mfpm046543 for ; Fri, 3 Apr 2020 00:48:41 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: (from www@localhost) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2/Submit) id 0330mfjB046542 for multimedia@FreeBSD.org; Fri, 3 Apr 2020 00:48:41 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) X-Authentication-Warning: kenobi.freebsd.org: www set sender to bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org using -f From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: multimedia@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 240871] snd_hda: Add Intel Comet Lake and Ice Lake support Date: Fri, 03 Apr 2020 00:48:41 +0000 X-Bugzilla-Reason: AssignedTo X-Bugzilla-Type: changed X-Bugzilla-Watch-Reason: None X-Bugzilla-Product: Base System X-Bugzilla-Component: kern X-Bugzilla-Version: CURRENT X-Bugzilla-Keywords: patch X-Bugzilla-Severity: Affects Many People X-Bugzilla-Who: blake.darche@gmail.com X-Bugzilla-Status: New X-Bugzilla-Resolution: X-Bugzilla-Priority: --- X-Bugzilla-Assigned-To: multimedia@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Flags: X-Bugzilla-Changed-Fields: cc Message-ID: In-Reply-To: References: Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable X-Bugzilla-URL: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/ Auto-Submitted: auto-generated MIME-Version: 1.0 X-BeenThere: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.29 Precedence: list List-Id: Multimedia discussions List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Fri, 03 Apr 2020 00:49:04 -0000 https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=3D240871 Blake changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- CC| |blake.darche@gmail.com --- Comment #1 from Blake --- Hello. I'm facing some problems. I use FreeBSD 12.1-RELEASE-p3 with a GENERIC kernel. # usbconfig (snip) ugen0.3: at usbus0, cfg=0 md=HOST spd=FULL (12Mbps) pwr=ON (500mA) It appears to be supported by the ov519(4) driver. If I launch webcamd, I get: # webcamd -d ugen0.3 Attached to ugen0.3[0] Creating /dev/video0 Creating /dev/input/event4 So far, so good. If I launch pwcview, a green window quickly appears then I get an error and webcamd ends: # pwcview Webcam set to: 320x240 (sif) at 5 fps libv4l2: error dequeuing buf: Device not configured Error reading from webcam: Device not configured And the kernel messages say: ugen0.3: at usbus0 (disconnected) I don't really know what to do, it seems that the webcam is disconnected each time you try to access it. For information, here's a detailled dump from usbconfig: ugen0.3: at usbus0, cfg=0 md=HOST spd=FULL (12Mbps) pwr=ON (500mA) bLength = 0x0012 bDescriptorType = 0x0001 bcdUSB = 0x0100 bDeviceClass = 0x0000 bDeviceSubClass = 0x0000 bDeviceProtocol = 0x0000 bMaxPacketSize0 = 0x0008 idVendor = 0x05a9 idProduct = 0xa511 bcdDevice = 0x0100 iManufacturer = 0x0000 iProduct = 0x0000 iSerialNumber = 0x0000 bNumConfigurations = 0x0001 Configuration index 0 bLength = 0x0009 bDescriptorType = 0x0002 wTotalLength = 0x0089 bNumInterfaces = 0x0001 bConfigurationValue = 0x0001 iConfiguration = 0x0000 bmAttributes = 0x0080 bMaxPower = 0x00fa Interface 0 bLength = 0x0009 bDescriptorType = 0x0004 bInterfaceNumber = 0x0000 bAlternateSetting = 0x0000 bNumEndpoints = 0x0001 bInterfaceClass = 0x00ff bInterfaceSubClass = 0x0000 bInterfaceProtocol = 0x0000 iInterface = 0x0000 Endpoint 0 bLength = 0x0007 bDescriptorType = 0x0005 bEndpointAddress = 0x0081 bmAttributes = 0x0001 wMaxPacketSize = 0x0000 bInterval = 0x0001 bRefresh = 0x0000 bSynchAddress = 0x0000 Interface 0 Alt 1 bLength = 0x0009 bDescriptorType = 0x0004 bInterfaceNumber = 0x0000 bAlternateSetting = 0x0001 bNumEndpoints = 0x0001 bInterfaceClass = 0x00ff bInterfaceSubClass = 0x0000 bInterfaceProtocol = 0x0000 iInterface = 0x0000 Endpoint 0 bLength = 0x0007 bDescriptorType = 0x0005 bEndpointAddress = 0x0081 bmAttributes = 0x0001 wMaxPacketSize = 0x0021 bInterval = 0x0001 bRefresh = 0x0000 bSynchAddress = 0x0000 Interface 0 Alt 2 bLength = 0x0009 bDescriptorType = 0x0004 bInterfaceNumber = 0x0000 bAlternateSetting = 0x0002 bNumEndpoints = 0x0001 bInterfaceClass = 0x00ff bInterfaceSubClass = 0x0000 bInterfaceProtocol = 0x0000 iInterface = 0x0000 Endpoint 0 bLength = 0x0007 bDescriptorType = 0x0005 bEndpointAddress = 0x0081 bmAttributes = 0x0001 wMaxPacketSize = 0x0081 bInterval = 0x0001 bRefresh = 0x0000 bSynchAddress = 0x0000 Interface 0 Alt 3 bLength = 0x0009 bDescriptorType = 0x0004 bInterfaceNumber = 0x0000 bAlternateSetting = 0x0003 bNumEndpoints = 0x0001 bInterfaceClass = 0x00ff bInterfaceSubClass = 0x0000 bInterfaceProtocol = 0x0000 iInterface = 0x0000 Endpoint 0 bLength = 0x0007 bDescriptorType = 0x0005 bEndpointAddress = 0x0081 bmAttributes = 0x0001 wMaxPacketSize = 0x0101 bInterval = 0x0001 bRefresh = 0x0000 bSynchAddress = 0x0000 Interface 0 Alt 4 bLength = 0x0009 bDescriptorType = 0x0004 bInterfaceNumber = 0x0000 bAlternateSetting = 0x0004 bNumEndpoints = 0x0001 bInterfaceClass = 0x00ff bInterfaceSubClass = 0x0000 bInterfaceProtocol = 0x0000 iInterface = 0x0000 Endpoint 0 bLength = 0x0007 bDescriptorType = 0x0005 bEndpointAddress = 0x0081 bmAttributes = 0x0001 wMaxPacketSize = 0x0181 bInterval = 0x0001 bRefresh = 0x0000 bSynchAddress = 0x0000 Interface 0 Alt 5 bLength = 0x0009 bDescriptorType = 0x0004 bInterfaceNumber = 0x0000 bAlternateSetting = 0x0005 bNumEndpoints = 0x0001 bInterfaceClass = 0x00ff bInterfaceSubClass = 0x0000 bInterfaceProtocol = 0x0000 iInterface = 0x0000 Endpoint 0 bLength = 0x0007 bDescriptorType = 0x0005 bEndpointAddress = 0x0081 bmAttributes = 0x0001 wMaxPacketSize = 0x0201 bInterval = 0x0001 bRefresh = 0x0000 bSynchAddress = 0x0000 Interface 0 Alt 6 bLength = 0x0009 bDescriptorType = 0x0004 bInterfaceNumber = 0x0000 bAlternateSetting = 0x0006 bNumEndpoints = 0x0001 bInterfaceClass = 0x00ff bInterfaceSubClass = 0x0000 bInterfaceProtocol = 0x0000 iInterface = 0x0000 Endpoint 0 bLength = 0x0007 bDescriptorType = 0x0005 bEndpointAddress = 0x0081 bmAttributes = 0x0001 wMaxPacketSize = 0x0301 bInterval = 0x0001 bRefresh = 0x0000 bSynchAddress = 0x0000 Interface 0 Alt 7 bLength = 0x0009 bDescriptorType = 0x0004 bInterfaceNumber = 0x0000 bAlternateSetting = 0x0007 bNumEndpoints = 0x0001 bInterfaceClass = 0x00ff bInterfaceSubClass = 0x0000 bInterfaceProtocol = 0x0000 iInterface = 0x0000 Endpoint 0 bLength = 0x0007 bDescriptorType = 0x0005 bEndpointAddress = 0x0081 bmAttributes = 0x0001 wMaxPacketSize = 0x03c1 bInterval = 0x0001 bRefresh = 0x0000 bSynchAddress = 0x0000 -- Marc From owner-freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Fri Apr 3 14:00:15 2020 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-multimedia@mailman.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 1E1E12A3AC3 for ; Well, sort of. I had "mic" as my record device and changes it to the only other option, "monitor. Now I get sound, but I am getting both the audio from the web site and from the microphone. I set the mic gain to 0:0, but I still hear the sounds in the room. I'm just guessing that my audio device setup is wrong.
