The issue is that the bridged traffic does not seem to get sent through the pipe, despite the firewall rule. I tried with 10, 11, and 12 releases - I don't remember the exact versions - but I could only get James's configuration working with FBSD 9 releases. I don't currently have access to the system that I used to test this, but I could organise to test any configurations that you have in mind, and send o= ther debug information, a few weeks from now when I will hopefully have access t= he hardware again. --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.= From owner-freebsd-net@freebsd.org Sun Sep 20 19:52:54 2020 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-net@mailman.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 916C63EF881 for ; Thanks for your response. I don't use fibs to handle this. I have fibs configured for jails and because of that I already have the proper gateways configured there, so I thought I can reuse. The pf solution is of course good but this is not a public facing server and I don't have pf setup on it. Which is not a big problem, just wondering if pf is the right solution to handle this? Can I do it with one sshd? Do I need to run two separate sshd's? Can I run two separate sshd's on the same box? sshd listens for all IPs by default. Also, sshd runs over TCP and this guarantees that it responds from same IP address which was used by initial client's request, too. You need not worry about that. Also, you already have static link between source IP address of sshd response, corresponding WAN interface and gateway IP address of that WAN interface. All you need is telling kernel to use right gateway based on source IP address despite of default route, this is called policy-based routing and you can achieve that with single ipfw rule: ipfw add 2000 fwd $gateway2 ip from $wan2ip to any out xmit $wan1 That is: redirect IP packets with source of second WAN interface ($wan2ip) to right gateway of that WAN ($gateway2) if they are going using (wrong) route to WAN1. That's all. Thanks Eugene. I am reluctant to add firewall rules because the second interface is configured as being in fib 1. This is so that jails, which are also started with fib 1, can use the proper routing table. I don't want to add complexity where it isn't necessary, unless there is no other option. Is it possible to somehow configure sshd to use the proper routing table? Exactly. > I don't want to add complexity where it isn't necessary, unless there is no other option. Me too. And single ipfw rule is minimal possible addition, all other solutions are more complex. > Is it possible to somehow configure sshd to use the proper routing table? It is possible but it won't help you because every routing table contains routes that do NOT depend on source IP address of the packet and you need such policy-based routing. Standard routing tables do not offer policy-based routing, so they are useless for you. You could read rc.conf(5) manual page to learn about _fib knob (f.e. sshd_fib="1") but it won't solve your problem. You could also add your own startup script to run second copy of sshd with its own PID file and listening IP address and FIB but that would be much more complex solution. Just tell kernel you need policy-based routing with ipfw. This just works. No need to utilize second FIB just because you already have it. Is our IP reassembly facility supposed to handle incoming out-of-order fragments? For example, IPIP packet created with gif(4) interface is fragmented with two parts, and parts are delivered out of order, last fragment comes first. In fact, I see this results in broken reassembly. Hi, IP reassembly is done in ip_input(), it doesn't matter what UL protocol is inside. Do you have some traces? You can use dtrace fbt probes to track your datagramms. --=20 WBR, Andrey V. Well, things work fine, but the surprise is when you destroy the jail, which reparents the interface back to vnet0... The short is that ifconfig can't tell the two interfaces apart, as they both have the same name, BUT you can still rename one interface to make them unique again, but I'm not sure if it's consistent which one gets renamed... I think that the best solution is that if there is a name collision, that the kernel renames the interface to something like collidedX. This seems like a minor security issue as it can allow a jail's owner to cause problems w/ the parent jail unless a very careful process is done to shutdown the jail (kill all processes, make sure the jail has no colliding interface names, then destroy jail)... I have a question: does your work also communicate the priority value for an mbuf down to the Ethernet driver, so that it can put the packet in the proper queue?
