My use case is troubleshooting tool - I can always ask somebody on the remote computer to check their binaries with a tool that is in the base system. ("Can you objdump -T this library?", "Can you objdump -R something | grep symbolname?"). I think the first use case can be solved with "nm -D", I don't see the replacement for the latter. Since I also support Mac, Linux users it nice to have one tool that works the same across all the platforms; but give I need to take "otool" for older MacOS into account I don't mind to have something else under a different name, with different options, as long as it is well known and preferably always available for troubleshooting (not an additionally installed something). Haven't worked with llvm-objdump yet. I like the disassembler feature but for myself I can install binutils. I tried it by changing Mk/bsd.port.mk and Templates/BSD.local.dist and found I need to change Makefile, pkg-plist and patches of lots lots lots of ports. So I decided to do this work as my long term item ;-). --- Yasuhiro KIMURA From owner-freebsd-ports@freebsd.org Tue Jan 14 07:01:55 2020 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-ports@mailman.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id A3CED1FD256 for ; Tue, 14 Jan 2020 07:01:55 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from portscout@FreeBSD.org) Received: from mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (unknown [127.0.1.3]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 47xhGC3y0Bz3DXg for ; Tue, 14 Jan 2020 07:01:55 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from portscout@FreeBSD.org) Received: by mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) id 878951FD253; Tue, 14 Jan 2020 07:01:55 +0000 (UTC) Delivered-To: ports@mailman.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 8750A1FD252 for ; Tue, 14 Jan 2020 07:01:55 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from portscout@FreeBSD.org) Received: from mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:3]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-digest SHA256) (Client CN "mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org", Issuer "Let's Encrypt Authority X3" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 47xhGC38Yvz3DXd for ; Tue, 14 Jan 2020 07:01:55 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from portscout@FreeBSD.org) Received: from portscout.nyi.freebsd.org (portscout.nyi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::50:21]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits)) (Client did not present a certificate) by mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 67D5C19B8E for ; Tue, 14 Jan 2020 07:01:55 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from portscout@FreeBSD.org) Received: from portscout.nyi.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.10]) by portscout.nyi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id 00E71tSn031260 for ; Tue, 14 Jan 2020 07:01:55 GMT (envelope-from portscout@FreeBSD.org) Received: (from portscout@localhost) by portscout.nyi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2/Submit) id 00E71th1031238; Tue, 14 Jan 2020 07:01:55 GMT (envelope-from portscout@FreeBSD.org) Message-Id: <202001140701.00E71th1031238@portscout.nyi.freebsd.org> X-Authentication-Warning: portscout.nyi.freebsd.org: portscout set sender to portscout@FreeBSD.org using -f Content-Disposition: inline Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit Content-Type: text/plain MIME-Version: 1.0 Date: Tue, 14 Jan 2020 07:01:55 +0000 From: portscout@FreeBSD.org To: ports@freebsd.org Subject: FreeBSD ports you maintain which are out of date X-Mailer: portscout/0.8.1 X-BeenThere: freebsd-ports@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.29 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting software to FreeBSD List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Tue, 14 Jan 2020 07:01:55 -0000 Dear port maintainer, The portscout new distfile checker has detected that one or more of your ports appears to be out of date. Unfortunately those don't always build as before, I am still investigating if they require a swig update or what else. In any case, I though I'd share the link in case someone wants to play with it.
