It's freebsd-12.0 and I'd like to bring it to 12.1 v= ia freebsd-update. I notice that when it was provisioned, it seems azure-agent (waagent) was installed manually, presumably by azure themselves. It was not installed via the pkg install method. It's dependent on python27 which is now obsolete. Apart from that, it looks just like a standard basic vm. What I'd like to know: is waagent required for the VM to function? If I upgrade, and something goes wrong with waagent, will the vm come back up? Or will it be stopped if waagent is non-functional? As 12.0 -> 12.1 involves default python going 27 -> 3[6-7] what do I need to look out for regarding waagent? I presume I'm going to have to install azure-agent (python37) over the top. All this is an issue because there's no ILO functionality exposed to the customer in Azure. thanks, --=20 J. --EuxKj2iCbKjpUGkD Content-Type: application/pgp-signature; name="signature.asc" -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iQIzBAABCAAdFiEE8n3tWhxW11Ccvv9/s8o7QhFzNAUFAl7KYq8ACgkQs8o7QhFz NAWmKw//a6LRqVcdmg+XhkDzZLFvzwSaKjO23EoJmoG6Od546ZdqkMhqa9ncPPOw nB/Rp2XKViRgmvPKKubgGmF6svBGY8eWDkmhzz1203WWnfzWt6UkLPyPjrC4Kgcm GION7H6s45R75fBOeCnHAumAK/gpEBaxittQXOI2J6BsVt2oTHihq1HNbqTmzwRQ DNCQLxC0AgA+HaNjNcqvUSpUbhDILs8M00yBnL8CG2RfjklmOfQ+wfzvAvrvTvkU qwtoiWzJRPPmtHlgqNYUrahXaq2Uk4LNGTm6lByBkr9qXhqXzp5bziasEQjYigPk niydrQbgRQrNSdYgIhg9sXtIA27wKGMcWQ/PJLAMVoOjVU34m3TKhayEorK/jErV BTZAu3SZcSavsj793vSg3M7z/cdftecBhAieKvsNqoxG5QVNs9p+EgtqlaRvioON Vo5JujstOVF51gF3WYJ0pwx6PxgQRYnH0B+2dOGmDBfjnaj+/QqGeIZw2+WL6mC8 L48v0y56vpOLsRLn54lHQ9j1UhHDZFgTv9YydGz31rCAXe6qCHyzCy3BHVARtiWH +LFYl8hxnE7tXk6ukATscPOZLdz70qkYnjEMM+DwXeoCEkNrEHirJK8I3Mu1tVdW fFFsa2agDTQ0Gz2EbOf2cDSRX+vgRbYDSjwqcM0LGA3sFuTXwqg= =JcSj -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --EuxKj2iCbKjpUGkD-- From owner-freebsd-virtualization@freebsd.org Sun May 24 16:33:35 2020 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-virtualization@mailman.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id BDAA02CA0FD for ; This reversal was hiding the capabilities-list, which prevented the MSI capability from being found for XHCI passthru. - Reorganize MSI/MSI-x config writes so that a 4-byte write at the capability offset would have the read-only portion skipped. This prevented MSI interrupts from being enabled. If you upgrade to FreeBSD 12.1, make sure you upgrade the pre-installed package using sysutils/azure-agent in the Ports Tree. You could do this before the upgrade as well as after the upgrade. So long as you don't try any of the Azure provisioning mechanisms during the upgrade (e.g. IP address change) you should be right. So, the keymap change is still likely > worthwhile. I'll take a closer look at your patch. Regarding (b): Is TigerVNC always worse than TightVNC, or could this be a bhyve-specific problem? When I wrote my Video BIOS code one year ago, I noticed that bhyve is sending updates continuously from rfb_wr_thr(), without any requests. On the other hand, the RFB protocol specification says that "an update is only sent from the server to the client in response to an explicit request from the client", so bhyve seems to technically break this. I tested my code with TigerVNC, and at one point I ended up with a very long delay for keyboard events. From my diary at the time (2019-05-02): "In any case, I finally found the cause of the long input queue. TigerVNC sends a new update request for each display update it gets, and it only expects to get one, but bhyve sent a separate update for each rectangle, so as soon as display updates started, the input buffer filled up with update requests." By then, I had probably already changed the rfb.c code a lot, but any delay for TigerVNC could be due to a similar issue. I guess different VNC clients would react differently to unexpected update messages. Anyway, I wanted to mention it before you rewrite the RFB code again. My patch is still in limbo at https://www.gulbra.net/freebsd-bhyve/, and the changes in rfb.c are those that are most likely to conflict with other modifications. It would be better for me if I don't have to do the same debugging all over again if I finally return to this code. /Henrik From owner-freebsd-virtualization@freebsd.org Thu May 28 22:27:54 2020 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-virtualization@mailman.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id EB8BB2FFC34 for ; Thu, 28 May 2020 22:27:54 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from grehan@freebsd.org) Received: from vito-vars.onthenet.com.au (vito-vars.OntheNet.com.au [203.13.68.24]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client did not present a certificate) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 49Y2QL1nKKz4J11 for ; Thu, 28 May 2020 22:27:54 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from grehan@freebsd.org) Received: from alto.onthenet.com.au (alto2.onthenet.com.au [203.13.68.14]) by vito-vars.onthenet.com.au (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 1E02E209F8C6 for ; Fri, 29 May 2020 08:27:43 +1000 (AEST) Received: from iredmail.onthenet.com.au (iredmail.onthenet.com.au [203.13.68.150]) by alto.onthenet.com.au (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 0749220AE960 for ; Fri, 29 May 2020 08:27:43 +1000 (AEST) Received: from iredmail.onthenet.com.au (iredmail.onthenet.com.au [127.0.0.1]) by iredmail.onthenet.com.au (Postfix) with ESMTP id 001AC2031D66 for ; Fri, 29 May 2020 08:27:42 +1000 (AEST) Received: from iredmail.onthenet.com.au ([127.0.0.1]) by iredmail.onthenet.com.au (iredmail.onthenet.com.au [127.0.0.1]) (amavisd-new, port 10026) with ESMTP id xJh_i5aCYQFV for ; Fri, 29 May 2020 08:27:42 +1000 (AEST) Received: from MacBook-Air-4.local (CPE-120-29-58-131.dsl.OntheNet.net [120.29.58.131]) by iredmail.onthenet.com.au (Postfix) with ESMTPSA id 9AFA22031D65; Fri, 29 May 2020 08:27:42 +1000 (AEST) Subject: Re: [Bug 246121] [bhyve][PATCH] Append Keyboard Layout specified option for using VNC. Thank you for telling me and I'm sorry for my lack of research. With you help, I found that the TigerVNC supports QEMU Extended Key Event Message, so I immediately tried to create a patch. As a result, when using TigerVNC, it is possible to support keys unique of = each language without depending the keyboard layout setting file or specifying b= hyve -k option. However, I would like to preserve the keyboard layout configuration file and the bhyve -k option feature to allow use by VNC clients that don't support = QEMU Extended Key Event Messages (such as tightVNC). By the last time, the keyboard layout setting file should have been able to input alphabets, numbers, symbols, and a part of functional key(e.g. Enter/Space) in every languages keyboard, so I think that support has advan= ced considerably, but what about? A. How to apply the NEW patch -------------------------------------------- Same as last time. (See above) B. Usage ----------------------------------------------------------------- * VNC clients with supported the QEMU Extended Key Event Mesage (TigerVNC) Just use it as before. The keyboard layout of each language is automatically supported.
