So then I asked Charles if his AP had legacy clients disabled, and low and behold, it did! ath(4) works on freebsd because 11n is enabled by default on it, but iwm doesn't because it only does 11abg. Once he disabled that option iwm worked fine on FreeBSD. List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Thu, 09 Jul 2020 11:24:55 -0000 Hi Wireless mailing list, I'm in search of a laptop to run FreeBSD on. I'm currently eying on the Thinkpad T490 or T14. I was wondering what the current state of the following wireless cards is: * Intel Wireless-AC 9560 (T490 wifi card) * Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX201 (T14 wifi card) After some initial digging I found that the AC 9560 is support, although only up and until 802.11g? Is this still the current state for the AC 9560? Regardging the AX card I found an open review in https://reviews.freebsd.org/D24421. Was wondering what the status of those patches are and if they will/can be merged soon? The reason for me getting the T14 is ofc a newer version of the laptop and updated CPU's. But besides that and AX support for the future I don't see any extra value. IIRC integrated graphics of intel 10th gen should still be supported on FreeBSD (Thinkpad T14). The first half is done ( see https://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-wireless/2020-July/009233.html ) which is the PCI attachments work, the firmware loads and starts. Now there’s a dual-case to be finished: net80211 11ac infrastructure to finish, which Adrian has started the last years, and we’ll see how much of a Linux compat layer we’ll manage to have (which would also help other drivers to be ported over more easily). The hope is that we’ll have full 11ac before the end of the year. > But besides that and AX support for the future I don't see any extra > value. I cannot say anything about 11ax yet, but certainly once 11ac is done that’s on the roadmap. /bz PS: I’d be careful with assuming that all the 9560s are supported; depends on the chipset; if it is, yes 11g still. That's a bit optimistic that attach and firmware loading is half of the work no ? I don't know how much linuxkpi layer is needed for 80211 compat but I guess it's "a lot" ? > Now=20 > there?s a dual-case to be finished: net80211 11ac infrastructure to=20 > finish, which Adrian has started the last years, and we?ll see how=20 > much of a Linux compat layer we?ll manage to have (which would also=20 > help other drivers to be ported over more easily). =20 IIRC Linux have multiple 80211 framework no ? I guess your work only focus on one (used by iwlwifi), do you know how many drivers used the same one ? What about FullMAC drivers like the SDIO broadcom one used in many ARM SBC, is that using the same framework ? > The hope is that we?ll have full 11ac before the end of the year. That way we can expose the needed stack and regulatory changes to a wider audience and shake out what I'm sure are a lot of weird bugs before we start trying to tackle many more drivers and 11ax/11ad. My TODO list on my ath10k fork is actually getting close to done, at least for the QCA9880 chip (the first generation one.) Geramy and BZ have been great in finding issues and poking at solutions. There are only a few more big TODO items before I start on the "remove the dead code" and "fix the left over linux-y locking issues" portion of this port. There are also issues with the later QCA6174 chips and QCA9888 (4x4, called beeliner) which I need to shake out, but that shouldn't stop it landing in the tree for some further testing by others. -adrian From owner-freebsd-wireless@freebsd.org Sat Jul 11 15:27:54 2020 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-wireless@mailman.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 5684A366A0F for ; Sat, 11 Jul 2020 15:27:54 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (mailman.nyi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::50:13]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4B3v1Q1fkhz44Zw for ; Sat, 11 Jul 2020 15:27:54 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: by mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) id 38D7636674F; Sat, 11 Jul 2020 15:27:54 +0000 (UTC) Delivered-To: wireless@mailman.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 389F3366A0E for ; Sat, 11 Jul 2020 15:27:54 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:3]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256 client-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-digest SHA256) (Client CN "mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org", Issuer "Let's Encrypt Authority X3" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 4B3v1Q0k7wz44xZ for ; Sat, 11 Jul 2020 15:27:54 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::50:1d]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256) (Client did not present a certificate) by mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id F06D015380 for ; Sat, 11 Jul 2020 15:27:53 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.5]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id 06BFRrwt048547 for ; Sat, 11 Jul 2020 15:27:53 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: (from www@localhost) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2/Submit) id 06BFRr31048546 for wireless@FreeBSD.org; Sat, 11 Jul 2020 15:27:53 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) X-Authentication-Warning: kenobi.freebsd.org: www set sender to bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org using -f From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: wireless@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 247913] Incorrect BCM module descriptions in if_bwi_pci.c Date: Sat, 11 Jul 2020 15:27:54 +0000 X-Bugzilla-Reason: AssignedTo X-Bugzilla-Type: new X-Bugzilla-Watch-Reason: None X-Bugzilla-Product: Base System X-Bugzilla-Component: wireless X-Bugzilla-Version: CURRENT X-Bugzilla-Keywords: X-Bugzilla-Severity: Affects Many People X-Bugzilla-Who: andrewponomarenko@yandex.ru X-Bugzilla-Status: New X-Bugzilla-Resolution: X-Bugzilla-Priority: --- X-Bugzilla-Assigned-To: wireless@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Flags: X-Bugzilla-Changed-Fields: bug_id short_desc product version rep_platform op_sys bug_status bug_severity priority component assigned_to reporter Message-ID: Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable X-Bugzilla-URL: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/ Auto-Submitted: auto-generated MIME-Version: 1.0 X-BeenThere: freebsd-wireless@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.33 Precedence: list List-Id: "Discussions of 802.11 stack, tools device driver development."
