I just would to send bitperfect sound from > freebsd to motu m2 to listen music. > Hi, I suspect the applications you are trying to use don't support 32-bit mode via OSS. That's why you hear noise. They've configured something else, like 16-bit or 24-bit mode. You could ktrace the application possibly to figure this out. It will show all IOCTL's. Try to configure virtual_oss in bitperfect mode instead for a test. Beware that many applications that output 16-bit audio, don't properly fill the lower bytes with noise when they resampling to 32-bit. That's another reason to use virtual_oss :-) --HPS From owner-freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Mon Mar 29 08:28:29 2021 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-multimedia@mailman.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id DD9E35C0C97 for ; Mon, 29 Mar 2021 08:28:29 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from hps@selasky.org) Received: from mail.turbocat.net (turbocat.net [IPv6:2a01:4f8:c17:6c4b::2]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256) (Client did not present a certificate) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 4F85M11G6gz4mc9 for ; Mon, 29 Mar 2021 08:28:28 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from hps@selasky.org) Received: from hps2020.home.selasky.org (unknown [178.17.145.105]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_128_GCM_SHA256 (128/128 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (2048 bits) server-digest SHA256) (No client certificate requested) by mail.turbocat.net (Postfix) with ESMTPSA id 2C59E26024C; Mon, 29 Mar 2021 10:28:21 +0200 (CEST) Subject: Re: Distorted sound with external usb-device and bitperfect To: Softwafe Engineer Cc: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org References: <4938264f-686a-af1a-cb28-f39585b1375a@selasky.org> From: Hans Petter Selasky Message-ID: Date: Mon, 29 Mar 2021 10:27:15 +0200 User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; FreeBSD amd64; rv:78.0) Gecko/20100101 Thunderbird/78.8.1 MIME-Version: 1.0 In-Reply-To: Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8; format=flowed Content-Language: en-US Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Rspamd-Queue-Id: 4F85M11G6gz4mc9 X-Spamd-Bar: --- Authentication-Results: mx1.freebsd.org; dkim=none; dmarc=none; spf=pass (mx1.freebsd.org: domain of hps@selasky.org designates 2a01:4f8:c17:6c4b::2 as permitted sender) smtp.mailfrom=hps@selasky.org X-Spamd-Result: default: False [-3.30 / 15.00]; ARC_NA(0.00)[]; RCVD_VIA_SMTP_AUTH(0.00)[]; RCVD_TLS_ALL(0.00)[]; FROM_HAS_DN(0.00)[]; TO_DN_SOME(0.00)[]; R_SPF_ALLOW(-0.20)[+a:mail.turbocat.net:c]; MID_RHS_MATCH_FROM(0.00)[]; MIME_GOOD(-0.10)[text/plain]; DMARC_NA(0.00)[selasky.org]; RBL_DBL_DONT_QUERY_IPS(0.00)[2a01:4f8:c17:6c4b::2:from]; SPAMHAUS_ZRD(0.00)[2a01:4f8:c17:6c4b::2:from:127.0.2.255]; TO_MATCH_ENVRCPT_SOME(0.00)[]; NEURAL_HAM_LONG(-1.00)[-1.000]; RCPT_COUNT_TWO(0.00)[2]; NEURAL_HAM_SHORT(-1.00)[-1.000]; NEURAL_HAM_MEDIUM(-1.00)[-1.000]; FREEMAIL_TO(0.00)[gmail.com]; FROM_EQ_ENVFROM(0.00)[]; R_DKIM_NA(0.00)[]; MIME_TRACE(0.00)[0:+]; ASN(0.00)[asn:24940, ipnet:2a01:4f8::/29, country:DE]; RCVD_COUNT_TWO(0.00)[2]; MAILMAN_DEST(0.00)[freebsd-multimedia] X-BeenThere: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.34 Precedence: list List-Id: Multimedia discussions List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Mon, 29 Mar 2021 08:28:29 -0000 On 3/29/21 10:24 AM, Softwafe Engineer wrote: > Thanks a lot. Bitperfect mode means the sound card only accepts 32-bit audio and at the given sample rate. Yes, the application must do all required sample conversions. --HPS From owner-freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Mon Mar 29 08:52:27 2021 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-multimedia@mailman.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 758595C1A15 for ; Mon, 29 Mar 2021 08:52:27 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from hps@selasky.org) Received: from mail.turbocat.net (turbocat.net [IPv6:2a01:4f8:c17:6c4b::2]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256) (Client did not present a certificate) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 4F85tf6JBpz4pyr for ; Mon, 29 Mar 2021 08:52:26 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from hps@selasky.org) Received: from hps2020.home.selasky.org (unknown [178.17.145.105]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_128_GCM_SHA256 (128/128 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (2048 bits)) (No client certificate requested) by mail.turbocat.net (Postfix) with ESMTPSA id 72E622601CA; Mon, 29 Mar 2021 10:52:25 +0200 (CEST) Subject: Re: Distorted sound with external usb-device and bitperfect To: Softwafe Engineer Cc: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org References: <4938264f-686a-af1a-cb28-f39585b1375a@selasky.org> From: Hans Petter Selasky Message-ID: <69e199f6-a3ac-db3b-c7a1-00001f750624@selasky.org> Date: Mon, 29 Mar 2021 10:51:19 +0200 User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; FreeBSD amd64; rv:78.0) Gecko/20100101 Thunderbird/78.8.1 MIME-Version: 1.0 In-Reply-To: Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8; format=flowed Content-Language: en-US Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Rspamd-Queue-Id: 4F85tf6JBpz4pyr X-Spamd-Bar: --- Authentication-Results: mx1.freebsd.org; dkim=none; dmarc=none; spf=pass (mx1.freebsd.org: domain of hps@selasky.org designates 2a01:4f8:c17:6c4b::2 as permitted sender) smtp.mailfrom=hps@selasky.org X-Spamd-Result: default: False [-3.30 / 15.00]; ARC_NA(0.00)[]; RCVD_VIA_SMTP_AUTH(0.00)[]; RCVD_TLS_ALL(0.00)[]; FROM_HAS_DN(0.00)[]; TO_DN_SOME(0.00)[]; R_SPF_ALLOW(-0.20)[+a:mail.turbocat.net:c]; MID_RHS_MATCH_FROM(0.00)[]; MIME_GOOD(-0.10)[text/plain]; DMARC_NA(0.00)[selasky.org]; RBL_DBL_DONT_QUERY_IPS(0.00)[2a01:4f8:c17:6c4b::2:from]; SPAMHAUS_ZRD(0.00)[2a01:4f8:c17:6c4b::2:from:127.0.2.255]; TO_MATCH_ENVRCPT_SOME(0.00)[]; NEURAL_HAM_LONG(-1.00)[-1.000]; RCPT_COUNT_TWO(0.00)[2]; NEURAL_HAM_SHORT(-1.00)[-1.000]; NEURAL_HAM_MEDIUM(-1.00)[-1.000]; FREEMAIL_TO(0.00)[gmail.com]; FROM_EQ_ENVFROM(0.00)[]; R_DKIM_NA(0.00)[]; MIME_TRACE(0.00)[0:+]; ASN(0.00)[asn:24940, ipnet:2a01:4f8::/29, country:DE]; RCVD_COUNT_TWO(0.00)[2]; MAILMAN_DEST(0.00)[freebsd-multimedia] X-BeenThere: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.34 Precedence: list List-Id: Multimedia discussions List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Mon, 29 Mar 2021 08:52:27 -0000 On 3/29/21 10:47 AM, Softwafe Engineer wrote: > So I can't get true bitperfect right? I think in Linux, ALSA automatically does audio format conversions. The choice is just if your application has to provide a certain format or not. Try to look at "top" under Linux while playing something and find who's doing the format conversion. --HPS From owner-freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Mon Mar 29 09:03:10 2021 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-multimedia@mailman.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id E19D25C203E for ; Mon, 29 Mar 2021 09:03:10 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from hps@selasky.org) Received: from mail.turbocat.net (turbocat.net [88.99.82.50]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256) (Client did not present a certificate) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 4F86721LV3z4r0x for ; Mon, 29 Mar 2021 09:03:09 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from hps@selasky.org) Received: from hps2020.home.selasky.org (unknown [178.17.145.105]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_128_GCM_SHA256 (128/128 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (2048 bits)) (No client certificate requested) by mail.turbocat.net (Postfix) with ESMTPSA id 9CA962601CA; Mon, 29 Mar 2021 11:03:07 +0200 (CEST) Subject: Re: Distorted sound with external usb-device and bitperfect To: Softwafe Engineer Cc: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org References: <4938264f-686a-af1a-cb28-f39585b1375a@selasky.org> <69e199f6-a3ac-db3b-c7a1-00001f750624@selasky.org> From: Hans Petter Selasky Message-ID: Date: Mon, 29 Mar 2021 11:02:01 +0200 User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; FreeBSD amd64; rv:78.0) Gecko/20100101 Thunderbird/78.8.1 MIME-Version: 1.0 In-Reply-To: Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8; format=flowed Content-Language: en-US Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Rspamd-Queue-Id: 4F86721LV3z4r0x X-Spamd-Bar: --- Authentication-Results: mx1.freebsd.org; dkim=none; dmarc=none; spf=pass (mx1.freebsd.org: domain of hps@selasky.org designates 88.99.82.50 as permitted sender) smtp.mailfrom=hps@selasky.org X-Spamd-Result: default: False [-3.30 / 15.00]; ARC_NA(0.00)[]; RCVD_VIA_SMTP_AUTH(0.00)[]; RCVD_TLS_ALL(0.00)[]; FROM_HAS_DN(0.00)[]; TO_DN_SOME(0.00)[]; R_SPF_ALLOW(-0.20)[+a:mail.turbocat.net:c]; MID_RHS_MATCH_FROM(0.00)[]; MIME_GOOD(-0.10)[text/plain]; DMARC_NA(0.00)[selasky.org]; RBL_DBL_DONT_QUERY_IPS(0.00)[88.99.82.50:from]; SPAMHAUS_ZRD(0.00)[88.99.82.50:from:127.0.2.255]; TO_MATCH_ENVRCPT_SOME(0.00)[]; NEURAL_HAM_LONG(-1.00)[-1.000]; RCPT_COUNT_TWO(0.00)[2]; NEURAL_HAM_SHORT(-1.00)[-1.000]; NEURAL_HAM_MEDIUM(-1.00)[-1.000]; FREEMAIL_TO(0.00)[gmail.com]; FROM_EQ_ENVFROM(0.00)[]; R_DKIM_NA(0.00)[]; MIME_TRACE(0.00)[0:+]; ASN(0.00)[asn:24940, ipnet:88.99.0.0/16, country:DE]; RCVD_COUNT_TWO(0.00)[2]; MAILMAN_DEST(0.00)[freebsd-multimedia] X-BeenThere: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.34 Precedence: list List-Id: Multimedia discussions List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Mon, 29 Mar 2021 09:03:10 -0000 On 3/29/21 10:55 AM, Softwafe Engineer wrote: > What about uadriver? Hi, Usually USB audio devices only support one audio format, that is quite common. But the USB specification allows for more formats at the same time. I think you have a good device, but likely it doesn't do 32-bits. I haven't heard of any DAC's capable of 32-bits yet :-) --HPS From owner-freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Mon Mar 29 08:00:18 2021 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-multimedia@mailman.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 0C09E5C0308 for ; Mon, 29 Mar 2021 08:00:18 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from timsofteng@gmail.com) Received: from mail-qt1-x830.google.com (mail-qt1-x830.google.com [IPv6:2607:f8b0:4864:20::830]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_128_GCM_SHA256 (128/128 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256 client-signature RSA-PSS (2048 bits) client-digest SHA256) (Client CN "smtp.gmail.com", Issuer "GTS CA 1O1" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 4F84kT1KV1z4l2g for ; Mon, 29 Mar 2021 08:00:16 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from timsofteng@gmail.com) Received: by mail-qt1-x830.google.com with SMTP id s2so8699999qtx.10 for ; Mon, 29 Mar 2021 01:00:16 -0700 (PDT) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=gmail.com; s=20161025; h=mime-version:references:in-reply-to:from:date:message-id:subject:to :cc:content-transfer-encoding; bh=xNYW48FDngHtAWaLdqlzNJEUl5+u57fhl1iKuVInwn0=; b=ngY2A4peHo7p2W2U/SvS7XSJQmX7MKySaKxdtQBPdTa4R9ry+6XKtODlg7lCF5h3fa aeiwgNjGoN6mO6h44PFvYiS5rggyfqEMemp5BgNm7uDs18gbfJvWlJFhWWM3ALPiViSK 0EU+bVdO+mXVOTZJESQlaV6a+rl6IapIRaGX1/4RjxxhfUsZTFiYThUkUtZwvLU5s/4M ci50idsuKxeaxH7a0sZf8mEi9pFsC0WydnQV2KufECnitUPIsKCV5f9o85KKFj5U5FXx JgxVcCpQM1Tmup26u1rGnkVuVvMUUU/udSPeyaCsyiffDUzPfzMg/J7CBaMPkfbM0bw4 OPEQ== X-Google-DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=1e100.net; s=20161025; h=x-gm-message-state:mime-version:references:in-reply-to:from:date :message-id:subject:to:cc:content-transfer-encoding; bh=xNYW48FDngHtAWaLdqlzNJEUl5+u57fhl1iKuVInwn0=; b=AXB+6rIdefahEwmdOj0XJoWy8AqFo4pePxuL/8Op8wWlI3Roy/fGiDTRxI6hE8FABF mJudBDuK82s/jNi9J/pb8EDPQKx7Q8LEQmddxyE0EU8xdtCkTzpJMzIMbgDWCSjn1xUF Abl/5aW9zSSEkrvKB+zaarqU5eWqA4y/EsJ6zqhcrVbmHC8InIAIMfej41Ct7UxlBK97 GhvbZLrZyXFRnpv0HI9dN/ZU4sDMk27i+PcKxDfvla5ms2FT/8vIr5XRH7svqw8kGZnF G2yHU4y4r39u+lSI6QgLEr9s4K+tccTEEKVd9BzggXyD1P+gDZ1yKHL729PIn3HLVYoe dgWg== X-Gm-Message-State: AOAM5312J2pmqIbZ25XNGlHdMCq6Rj4KIks9cEyq0ru+53aXgRwr+SMu V1St6MHdU4zroF+tvgGQTjx7F5GTlDTkPy9Yc+Bdk/Y08IY= X-Google-Smtp-Source: ABdhPJzqEH8kWdDt8M1CbM7Fgg8jT5l7+ppaHa/rUm4VD2zCvro+viQ+rKUI+NEyg3uhtXvk5LbItNZ00+9mEokdXD4= X-Received: by 2002:ac8:4a19:: with SMTP id x25mr21680376qtq.271.1617004815723; Mon, 29 Mar 2021 01:00:15 -0700 (PDT) MIME-Version: 1.0 References: In-Reply-To: From: Softwafe Engineer Date: Mon, 29 Mar 2021 07:59:52 +0300 Message-ID: Subject: Re: Distorted sound with external usb-device and bitperfect To: Hans Petter Selasky Cc: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable X-Rspamd-Queue-Id: 4F84kT1KV1z4l2g X-Spamd-Bar: -- Authentication-Results: mx1.freebsd.org; dkim=pass header.d=gmail.com header.s=20161025 header.b=ngY2A4pe; dmarc=pass (policy=none) header.from=gmail.com; spf=pass (mx1.freebsd.org: domain of timsofteng@gmail.com designates 2607:f8b0:4864:20::830 as permitted sender) smtp.mailfrom=timsofteng@gmail.com X-Spamd-Result: default: False [-2.02 / 15.00]; TO_DN_SOME(0.00)[]; R_SPF_ALLOW(-0.20)[+ip6:2607:f8b0:4000::/36:c]; FREEMAIL_FROM(0.00)[gmail.com]; DKIM_TRACE(0.00)[gmail.com:+]; RCPT_COUNT_TWO(0.00)[2]; DMARC_POLICY_ALLOW(-0.50)[gmail.com,none]; FROM_EQ_ENVFROM(0.00)[]; MIME_TRACE(0.00)[0:+]; RBL_DBL_DONT_QUERY_IPS(0.00)[2607:f8b0:4864:20::830:from]; FREEMAIL_ENVFROM(0.00)[gmail.com]; ASN(0.00)[asn:15169, ipnet:2607:f8b0::/32, country:US]; DWL_DNSWL_NONE(0.00)[gmail.com:dkim]; ARC_NA(0.00)[]; NEURAL_HAM_MEDIUM(-1.00)[-1.000]; R_DKIM_ALLOW(-0.20)[gmail.com:s=20161025]; FROM_HAS_DN(0.00)[]; NEURAL_SPAM_SHORT(0.98)[0.985]; NEURAL_HAM_LONG(-1.00)[-1.000]; MIME_GOOD(-0.10)[text/plain]; PREVIOUSLY_DELIVERED(0.00)[freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org]; SPAMHAUS_ZRD(0.00)[2607:f8b0:4864:20::830:from:127.0.2.255]; TO_MATCH_ENVRCPT_SOME(0.00)[]; RCVD_IN_DNSWL_NONE(0.00)[2607:f8b0:4864:20::830:from]; RCVD_COUNT_TWO(0.00)[2]; RCVD_TLS_ALL(0.00)[]; MAILMAN_DEST(0.00)[freebsd-multimedia] X-Mailman-Approved-At: Mon, 29 Mar 2021 11:24:55 +0000 X-BeenThere: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.34 Precedence: list List-Id: Multimedia discussions List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Mon, 29 Mar 2021 08:00:18 -0000 Here is dmesg after motu m2 was plugged: https://pastebin.com/1mcQNn1H (is pastebin ok?)
