Well, on FreeBSD I am able to start VM with both vbox and bhyve.. but the problem is with that "NESTED VIRTUALIZATION" (this seems to be the proper name) that does not seem to work. So I did setup a, yuck, windoze, just to see in practice if "nested virtualization" works on other OS on the same hardware. I did install windoze, then VBox, then created Linux Debian 11 virtual machine, then installed Android Studio on that vm, then launched Virtual Android Device and IT WORKED! o_O So my AMD FX-8320 CPU seems to support "nested virtualization" (its called VT-D for Intel and AMD-V for AMD). Question is why Nested Virtualization does not work on FreeBSD? Should I set it up somehow? Is it supported here at all? Any hints appreciated :-) --=20 CeDeROM, SQ7MHZ, http://www.tomek.cedro.info From nobody Sun Apr 23 06:42:00 2023 X-Original-To: questions@mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4Q3zG94t4Hz46wpb for ; certbot 2.4.0
FreeBSD 13.2-RELEASE

After recently updating to FreeBSD 13.2, certbot has stopped working
correctly. I can supply the entire log file; however, I believe this
might be the pertinent part:

FileNotFoundError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/usr/local/etc= /apache24/libexec/apache24/mod_ssl.so'
2023-04-23 08:28:29,481:WARNING:certbot_apache._internal.configurator:Unabl= e to read ssl_module file; not disabling session tickets.
2023-04-23 08:28:29,482:DEBUG:certbot._internal.plugins.selection:Single ca= ndidate plugin: * apache

The correct path would be: /usr/local/libexec/apache24/mod_ssl.so

How can I correct this problem? I have posed on the 'letencrypt' fo= rum;
hopwever, I have not received back a response as of yet.

You may complain of the inelegance of this "solution= " while you search for the config file:

mkdir -p /usr/local/etc= /apache24/libexec
ln -s /usr/local/libexec/apache24 /usr/local/etc/apac= he24/libexec

Thanks Pete, this is my main question if bhyve / vbox / kernel supports it at all :-) I got Android Studio running some time ago but there was problem with Gradle that did not want to detect FreeBSD as supported platform. Maybe I could make Android Emulator running on FreeBSD.. but also I need NDK and SDK for cross compilation.. and Google rejected my patches that reported FreeBSD as Linux in order to use Linux binaries, they say "this platform is unsupported" and by that they mean they won't even accept source code patches to make things work here. Thus my approach with virtualization.. but there Android Emulator does not start when no hardware acceleration is available. Some time ago I thought Microsoft sucked but Google sux even more.. not to mention Apple that does not even allow to virtualize macOS where XCode is the only tool to build iOS apps.. this whole brave new world of mobile applications is a good state of our current civilization ;-) I hoped someone on the list would know the current state of "nested virtualization" in FreeBSD.. if its currently supported and/or maybe a timeline when it may be available :-) --=20 CeDeROM, SQ7MHZ, http://www.tomek.cedro.info From nobody Mon Apr 24 10:20:18 2023 X-Original-To: freebsd-questions@mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4Q4h3L4Wg6z46d9q for ; Mon, 24 Apr 2023 10:20:30 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from ml@netfence.it) Received: from soth.netfence.it (mailserver.netfence.it [78.134.96.152]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256 client-signature RSA-PSS (2048 bits) client-digest SHA256) (Client CN "mailserver.netfence.it", Issuer "R3" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 4Q4h3J6g05z3Fjh for ; Mon, 24 Apr 2023 10:20:28 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from ml@netfence.it) Authentication-Results: mx1.freebsd.org; dkim=none; spf=pass (mx1.freebsd.org: domain of ml@netfence.it designates 78.134.96.152 as permitted sender) smtp.mailfrom=ml@netfence.it; dmarc=pass (policy=none) header.from=netfence.it Received: from [10.1.2.18] (mailserver.netfence.it [78.134.96.152]) (authenticated bits=0) by soth.netfence.it (8.17.1/8.17.1) with ESMTPSA id 33OAKIpD063695 (version=TLSv1.3 cipher=TLS_AES_128_GCM_SHA256 bits=128 verify=NO) for ; Mon, 24 Apr 2023 12:20:18 +0200 (CEST) (envelope-from ml@netfence.it) X-Authentication-Warning: soth.netfence.it: Host mailserver.netfence.it [78.134.96.152] claimed to be [10.1.2.18] Message-ID: <2d907551-d0b4-f674-2586-3216e35c530f@netfence.it> Date: Mon, 24 Apr 2023 12:20:18 +0200 List-Id: User questions List-Archive: https://lists.freebsd.org/archives/freebsd-questions List-Help: List-Post: List-Subscribe: List-Unsubscribe: Sender: owner-freebsd-questions@freebsd.org X-BeenThere: freebsd-questions@freebsd.org MIME-Version: 1.0 User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; FreeBSD amd64; rv:102.0) Gecko/20100101 Thunderbird/102.10.0 Content-Language: en-US To: freebsd-questions@freebsd.org From: Andrea Venturoli Subject: Poudriere "bad file descriptor" Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8; format=flowed Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Scanned-By: MIMEDefang 2.86 X-Spamd-Result: default: False [-3.58 / 15.00]; NEURAL_HAM_LONG(-1.00)[-1.000]; NEURAL_HAM_MEDIUM(-1.00)[-1.000]; NEURAL_HAM_SHORT(-0.78)[-0.783]; DMARC_POLICY_ALLOW(-0.50)[netfence.it,none]; R_SPF_ALLOW(-0.20)[+ip4:78.134.96.152]; MIME_GOOD(-0.10)[text/plain]; MIME_TRACE(0.00)[0:+]; ASN(0.00)[asn:35612, ipnet:78.134.0.0/17, country:IT]; R_DKIM_NA(0.00)[]; MLMMJ_DEST(0.00)[freebsd-questions@freebsd.org]; FROM_EQ_ENVFROM(0.00)[]; RCVD_COUNT_ONE(0.00)[1]; RCVD_VIA_SMTP_AUTH(0.00)[]; HAS_XAW(0.00)[]; RCVD_TLS_ALL(0.00)[]; FROM_HAS_DN(0.00)[]; ARC_NA(0.00)[]; BLOCKLISTDE_FAIL(0.00)[78.134.96.152:server fail]; TO_MATCH_ENVRCPT_ALL(0.00)[]; PREVIOUSLY_DELIVERED(0.00)[freebsd-questions@freebsd.org]; TO_DN_NONE(0.00)[]; RCPT_COUNT_ONE(0.00)[1]; MID_RHS_MATCH_FROM(0.00)[] X-Rspamd-Queue-Id: 4Q4h3J6g05z3Fjh X-Spamd-Bar: --- X-ThisMailContainsUnwantedMimeParts: N Hello. hi,

answer as usually late, but you can che= ck procesor virtualisation flags with command:
For Linux:

egrep -wo 'vmx|ept|vpid|npt|tpr_shadow|flexpriority|vnmi|lm|aes' /proc/cpuinfo  | sort | uniq; egrep -wo 'vmx|lm|aes' /proc/cpuinfo | sort | uniq | sed -e 's/aes/Hardware encryption=3DYes (&)/g' -=
e 's/lm/64 bit cpu=3DYes =
(&)/g'<=
/span> -e 's/vmx/Intel hardware virtualization=3DYes (&)<=
/span>/g'

aes
ept
flexpriority
lm
tpr_shadow
vmx
vnmi
vpid
Hardware encryption=3DYes (=
aes)<=
/span>
64 bit cpu=3DYes (lm)
Intel hardware virtualization=3DYes (vmx)

On Freebsd:

egrep -woi 'vmx|ept|vpid|npt|tpr_shadow|flexpriority|vnmi|lm|aes' /var/run/dmesg.bo=
ot | sort | =
uniq; egrep -woi 'vmx|lm|aes' /var/run/dmesg.boot | sort | un=
iq

AES
EPT
LM
VMX
VPID
AES
LM
VMX

this is for in= tel, amd has it's own implementation for bot. Basically VMX is m= inimum, the extended page support - EPT is second most important not= minimum but most modern hypervisors like bhyve also need this one.
i believe for amd you are looking for AMD-v SVM but r= ather verify if correct acronyms.

i believe
Many Regards
