Thanks, and also thanks to The FreeBSD Foundation that's sponsoring the work. I also have to point out that most of the work, at least for OpenJDK 23, is already done by others. The goal of the project goes beyond OpenJDK 23 though, and should hopefully make any future Java version better supported on FreeBSD. The main reason I'm working on getting the OpenJDK 23 build in shape now is that I need it to build OpenJDK 24 :) Take care! Harald! That's great.  What's the chances of you being able to push PRs for the changes you've got?  I build OpenJDK 23 pretty regularly, so I'm interested in what changes you need and would be happy to incorporate them.  Sames goes for bug fixes that correct the JDK behaviour based on the inbuilt test suite (many of which probably also should be merged back into JDK21, etc.). Also please email me directly if there's questions you have or explanations I can provide for specific pieces of BSD specific code. -- Greg From nobody Thu Dec 12 04:55:58 2024 X-Original-To: freebsd-java@mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4Y80Xw4xp1z5h0B6 for ; Thu, 12 Dec 2024 04:56:00 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from 01010193b93943b7-e81c1514-94c9-4ab1-89d6-52eeed1d0203-000000@us-west-2.amazonses.com) Received: from a27-186.smtp-out.us-west-2.amazonses.com (a27-186.smtp-out.us-west-2.amazonses.com [54.240.27.186]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_128_GCM_SHA256 (128/128 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256) (Client did not present a certificate) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 4Y80Xv4yH6z4jrr for ; Thu, 12 Dec 2024 04:55:59 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from 01010193b93943b7-e81c1514-94c9-4ab1-89d6-52eeed1d0203-000000@us-west-2.amazonses.com) Authentication-Results: mx1.freebsd.org; dkim=pass header.d=amazonses.com header.s=7v7vs6w47njt4pimodk5mmttbegzsi6n header.b=tVntXRUn; spf=pass (mx1.freebsd.org: domain of 01010193b93943b7-e81c1514-94c9-4ab1-89d6-52eeed1d0203-000000@us-west-2.amazonses.com designates 54.240.27.186 as permitted sender) smtp.mailfrom=01010193b93943b7-e81c1514-94c9-4ab1-89d6-52eeed1d0203-000000@us-west-2.amazonses.com; dmarc=none DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; q=dns/txt; c=relaxed/simple; s=7v7vs6w47njt4pimodk5mmttbegzsi6n; d=amazonses.com; t=1733979358; h=Message-ID:Date:MIME-Version:Subject:To:References:From:In-Reply-To:Content-Type:Content-Transfer-Encoding:Feedback-ID; bh=oIVbXOppl1cABInXhtADrvWDlYKz6OM8x88wIbCkA58=; b=tVntXRUn4JU+rHPjyy1mZasUjgoiHw3FpXpo9Vr+Jh4mg2KgZb8g7T80K6Hr8Z/p jXPQ/lWNOkpI6n4Qtnqttw7y4Fz41sjM2wyNl97T82AP0mlABbXx0pV7lfNyl+2jf0j bKwLJtUMKvO7Sbhoz+Y7aNJ0rOXo3cvLWt5Di0yQ= X-Authentication-Warning: misty.eyesbeyond.com: Host laptop.eyesbeyond.com [10.0.0.19] claimed to be [10.0.0.19] Message-ID: <01010193b93943b7-e81c1514-94c9-4ab1-89d6-52eeed1d0203-000000@us-west-2.amazonses.com> Date: Thu, 12 Dec 2024 04:55:58 +0000 List-Id: Porting Java to FreeBSD List-Archive: https://lists.freebsd.org/archives/freebsd-java List-Help: List-Post: List-Subscribe: List-Unsubscribe: Sender: owner-freebsd-java@FreeBSD.org MIME-Version: 1.0 User-Agent: Mozilla Thunderbird Subject: Re: Introduction and a bit of status Content-Language: en-GB To: freebsd-java@freebsd.org References: <86wmgbbnpk.fsf@ltc.des.dev> From: Greg Lewis In-Reply-To: <86wmgbbnpk.fsf@ltc.des.dev> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8; format=flowed Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit Feedback-ID: ::1.us-west-2.57h2ou5HkLStqinMcFspxvx9Ae9MkLBpzbLgKiDKs1s=:AmazonSES X-SES-Outgoing: 2024.12.12-54.240.27.186 X-Spamd-Result: default: False [-0.68 / 15.00]; FORGED_MUA_THUNDERBIRD_MSGID_UNKNOWN(2.50)[]; NEURAL_HAM_LONG(-1.00)[-1.000]; NEURAL_HAM_MEDIUM(-1.00)[-1.000]; NEURAL_HAM_SHORT(-0.99)[-0.992]; FORGED_SENDER(0.30)[glewis@eyesbeyond.com,01010193b93943b7-e81c1514-94c9-4ab1-89d6-52eeed1d0203-000000@us-west-2.amazonses.com]; R_SPF_ALLOW(-0.20)[+ip4:54.240.0.0/18:c]; R_DKIM_ALLOW(-0.20)[amazonses.com:s=7v7vs6w47njt4pimodk5mmttbegzsi6n]; MIME_GOOD(-0.10)[text/plain]; XM_UA_NO_VERSION(0.01)[]; ASN(0.00)[asn:16509, ipnet:54.240.24.0/22, country:US]; DWL_DNSWL_NONE(0.00)[amazonses.com:dkim]; ARC_NA(0.00)[]; RCPT_COUNT_ONE(0.00)[1]; MIME_TRACE(0.00)[0:+]; RWL_MAILSPIKE_POSSIBLE(0.00)[54.240.27.186:from]; DMARC_NA(0.00)[eyesbeyond.com]; MLMMJ_DEST(0.00)[freebsd-java@freebsd.org]; FROM_HAS_DN(0.00)[]; HAS_XAW(0.00)[]; RCVD_COUNT_ZERO(0.00)[0]; RCVD_IN_DNSWL_NONE(0.00)[54.240.27.186:from]; TO_DN_NONE(0.00)[]; FROM_NEQ_ENVFROM(0.00)[glewis@eyesbeyond.com,01010193b93943b7-e81c1514-94c9-4ab1-89d6-52eeed1d0203-000000@us-west-2.amazonses.com]; TO_MATCH_ENVRCPT_ALL(0.00)[]; DKIM_TRACE(0.00)[amazonses.com:+] X-Rspamd-Queue-Id: 4Y80Xv4yH6z4jrr X-Spamd-Bar: / On 12/7/24 5:57 AM, Dag-Erling Smørgrav wrote: > Harald Eilertsen writes: >> I have been contracted by The FreeBSD Foundation to improve the Java >> situation on FreeBSD, mainly by making it easier to track upstream, and >> fix some long outstanding issues with the port.
