I was trying to configure XF86 Server GUI. I log in as root and type the following command /stand/sysinstall. The system then does a device probe and then comes to a window where I select the option of post installation. I select the area where I can configure the XF86 Server GUI. I go through the configuration process and FreeBSD then trys to bring up the Server GUI. I always get the error message "Unable to start X Server". I have tried several other configurations and the same error message continues to come up. At the command prompt I have tried to start xinit and startx and I get the following error: Using X Free 86 ATI driver version 4.6 ATI 3D Rage Pro Graphics controller detcted Chip type 4742 "GB", version 4, foundry UMC class 0, revision 0x01 AGP interface detected; Block I/o base is 0XEC00 ATI mach 64 video adapter detected Internal RAM DAC (subtype 1) detected Using 8 MB linear aperture at 0x FD000000 4096 kB of SGRAM (1:) detected Internal programmable clock generature detected Reference clock 157.5/11 (14.318) MHz (--) SVGA: chipset: ati (--) SVGA: ati (--) SVGA: video ram:4096 (**) SVGA : Using 8 bpp, Depth 8, Color weight: 666 (--) SVGA: Maximum allowed dot-clock: 230.000 MHz (--) SVGA: There is no mode definition named "640x480" Fatal Server error: No valid modes found When reporting a problem related to a server crash, please send the full server output, not just the last messages X connection to :0.0 broken (explicit Kill or server shut down) $ The machine that I am trying to configure this on is a Dell Optiplex GX1(Pentium II 400 MHz processor), the monitor is a 15" monitor. I believe the problem might be with the monitor settings. At this point any help would be appreciated. >How-To-Repeat: >Fix: >Release-Note: >Audit-Trail: >Unformatted: To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-bugs" in the body of the message
