I also have no working tape drive (okay, that's not exactly true - I can't verify it's working because I can't find any old travan tapes for a Colorado T-1000e), but I always make a point of tar+gzipping my /etc/, /var/mail/, and /home/ dirs and then FTPing them to another computer. Sometimes I have backups of important things on 3 or 4 different servers in case something ever happens to one of them. Hey, it's better than nothing! Good luck. -Tenebrae.
