A quick way to disable beeps ... try this line in your .xinitrc, .xsession, or whatever script you're using to start X: xset b off -- Sean Kelly NOAA Forecast Systems Laboratory, Boulder Colorado USA In my house there's this light switch that doesn't do anything.
