Thanks for the time.  But I think I've narrowed the problem a 
little more.  First, it's not a virtual memory problem (I 
instrumented kern/uipc_mbuf.c).  My current best thought is that 
under high load either increasing the number of available mbufs
or allocating more mbuf clusters causes the appl. to panic.
