Well, I have a 1GB and a 2GB disk and have it set up like so:

1GB:  	/		50MB
	/var		50MB
	swap		100MB (I ran out once)
	/usr		rest
2GB:	/usr/local	all (actually have it mounted as /u1 and have
			/usr/local and /usr/X11R6 linked under it)

I have /tmp as a 50MB MFS.
