If the group as a whole want to go with FreeBSD, then why are some of the members scared of "the text". If you are indeed programmers, then you should not be "scared" of text. It sounds like you do not know a lot about FreeBSD so I would suggest to stick with what you know if all you are doing is compiling; you have a large enough task as it is with robotics.
