Hint, install PAO http://pia.plaza.hitachi-sk.co.jp/ftp/FreeBSD-jp/PAO/ and you will have proper PCMCIA support, with which you can plug in and plug out the network card if needed. Second, you can easily combine things with DHCP to have a properly configured laptop as soon as you switch on the machine/resume the machine.
