Non-standard functions that are declared in standard headers should be ifdefed: #if !defined(_ANSI_SOURCE) && !defined(_POSIX_SOURCE) See . Prototypes should be alphabetical order. We normally use a separate list for the nonstandard functions (see again) so this probably doesn't apply to the new functions. The ordering in is actually screwed up. putenv and getenv are out of order because they were once in a separate list for !_ANSI_SOURCE-only. The rand48 functions are out of order because someone didn't follow the rules. Bruce
