Can you try to:
  * remove 'cd' from your kernel config
  * boot
  * camcontrol devlist -v
  * kldload cd

Also, does this happen regardless of whether or not a disc is present in
your CD drive? Please try with no disc, with a known good CD-ROM, with a
known good CD-audio, and with a blank CD-R.
