Hmm... I read somewhere that it generally wasn't advisable to do any 
optimization above -O... or was that just for kernel/world-build?

I'm using the drm-kernelmodules from ports. And I've also tried running with 
the matrox HAL, but recompiled some days ago without to check whether there 
was any difference. With tuxracer it was the same, haven't tested with 
glxgear though.
