I'm just standing in the sidelines listening to all of this, but...

Somebody mentioned PSTN-based conference calls and the monetary cost
usually involved, so how about doing some H.323 audio conferencing
(and video, if so inclined)? We have everything we need in the ports
collection:

ports/net/ohphone
ports/net/openh323
ports/net/openh323proxy
ports/net/opengatekeeper
ports/net/openmcu

Any application supporing the G.711 or GSM audio codecs with H.323
should work with these, and GSM is sufficient for even the most anemic
internet connections (at least 19.2kbps). It should even be possible
to connect one or more endpoints in the conference over regular PSTN
for those who can't do H.323 for some reason. All it would take is
someone with decent bandwidth and CPU to host the MCU.

I would be glad to try and set that up on one of my fast boxes sitting
on our T1 at work, though I have no way to make any PSTN connections
at this time for those who are H.323-impaired. It is possible that
within the next year that could be done as we plan on replacing our
current phone systems with a VoIP system. Are at least a few of the
developers interested in using this ability to do multipoint H.323
conferencing (obviously not required for only two people) if I set it
up? If somebody already has an MCU set up that they're willing to
donate then I'll defer, but I've been needing to set up an MCU for a
while anyway. :-)
