The installation is pretty easy.  Disk partitioning is different, but
not really hard.  If you're used to using some Linux distribution, you
may find the need to learn about disklabel and re-learn the location of
a few configuration files for your email program (at least some programs
end up in different locations, much as they do with different Linux
distributions...).

Give Freebsd a try!  If you figured out Linux, Freebsd will not be very
hard to figure out at all.

I'll add that the ports/packages system in Freebsd is really easy.
