Just another datapoint. I realize most of this is behind us now but there
is a bit of new information here fwiw.

You can build ("make") phoenix 0.4_4 with the base (4.7) perl. If you
install ("make install") it with the same perl you'll get the XUL error
previously reported here.

If you *then* get and use the perl 5.8 port, and "make install" (ie, no
rebuilding), that seems to work fine.

I agree this fact is of hardly any use for anyone at this point.
