Maybe it makes more sense to allow python makesetup script to understand
-pthread flag? Small patch for python 1.52 attached.

I am adding -pthread flag to both $libs and $cpp because I do not know if $cpps
variable is used at link stage:

+                       -pthread)       libs="$libs $arg"
+                                       cpps="$cpps $arg";;
