Donald, FreeBSD is a UNIX-like OS, as is AIX, Linux, etc. The traditional way of using unix is a command line interface, dos-like you might say, although it'd be more correct to say dos is unix-like :) There is also an interface known as X or XWindows, which gives you a graphical interface (although the command-line interface is an older, tried-and-true method). Web browsing, word processing, real audio, all those things are available for X. One thing about unix, though, there is alot to learn :) You must definitely have some time on your hands. But it can be rewarding. FreeBSD is definitely more stable (in my humble opinion) than any microsoft product as yet, and faster too. But, it's not neccessarily "user-friendly", as they say :) There is alot of support, on this and many other mailing lists, irc, email, etc, but largely you are on your own and must learn many strange and powerful programs. I guess it all depends what you want out of your computer. -rob ( www.namodn.com ) ( mailto : robert@namodn.com ) On Tue, 1 Dec 1998, Donald C Kressman wrote: > Hi, > Well I have read every word on your home page regarding FreeBSD.
