You need to Well, to be more accurate - they're shadowed in /etc/passwd but actually in /etc/master.passwd (from which the db is built). If you have DES style passwords on your Linux box, just make sure that the DES distribution is installed on your FreeBSD box then copy the entries into /etc/master.passwd using vipw(1). When you're done adjusting the entries to taste (home directory, GCOS field changes, etc), vipw will rebuild the databases automatically. Jordan
