I was reading this thread as I was in the process of downloading the Linux version of Communicator 4.5, and thought, "Oh no! Trouble ahead!". Installed a few minutes ago and it ran fine the first time (and I have no /compat/linux/lib/ld-linux.so.2, nor even a symlink to it).
