I've been running this for three weeks. The reasons for committing it so late are (a) my spare time has been negative recently and so I've not been able to do it until now, and (b) I previously moved these functions into a library, libutil, at the end of last year. It was discussed on this list that libutil was the wrong place for it to go, and I really want that fixed _before_ the tag goes down. Part of the discussion about moving it to libc happened on this list, and part of it was in private mail with bde. To satisfy your desire I'm cooking up a makeworld at the moment, which I will forward privately to you when it has completed.
