Thank you for writing to us.  There are many things you could do, and
I'm currently working on a document for people interested in
contributing to FreeBSD. I will be releasing this in the next couple
of days.

For now, I would recommend subscribing to one of our mailing lists -
send mail to majordomo@freebsd.org and say `subscribe hackers'.
