I apologize!

I neglected to include the fact that the printer works from W95.
The problem only occurs with FreeBSD (2.1.5).

The FAQ suggests a hardware problem but I should have thought that
a hardware problem would affect both.  Suggestions sincerely
appreciated--including how I may test hardware.
