: The LCD display on Dell boxes was programmed by the 386BSD 0.1 boot to : say something like "GO!!!". I can't rememebr for sure. The old Solbourne S4000 machine had a place you could plug in a device to decode the POST, or other status messages. When it was at the rom prompt waiting for input, it would say FEED and then FACE and then repeat. vmunix did something boring: 8000 0800 0080 0008 :-(. Warner
