I too have experienced this problem (under earlier releases of FreeBSD, and
using a Microcom FAST+).  Nobody could shed any light on the problem - it
seems that for most people, iijppp works fine.

I switched to pppd, and had no further problems.

(Remember that pppd uses the ppp network interface, and not tun!)
