It has actually been a burden with the Maia port for a very long time. It's a very strange issue that only seems to effect certain systems. I'm wondering if perhaps it is related to the way that MySQL is built or perhaps the system arch setting itself. I've been trying to resolve this issue for over a year and I cannot reproduce it myself on any of my i386 or amd64 systems. So, this was a big help identifying the fact that the "ldconfig" check seems to be the culprit. I will look into this with the help of some FBSD port gurus and see what I can do. I'll post back as soon as I have a definitive way of fixing this. Again, thanks for submitting this! Without being able to reproduce the error, there is really no way for me to figuring this out!
