I absolutely have _never_ mounted a FS async, and I've had two hangs.  I 
have two machines, they're fairly alike, except one has extra serial 
ports (8 in a irq sharing card) and has seen a lot of ppp/route commands, 
and that one has seen both of the hangs.  Other one has had no problems.
