(not sure if this is the right forum...) on a Pentium133 running 2.2.6, i tried to run some applet from the jdk115 distribution with the jdk's appletviewer, and got very high CPU usage (around 20-30% for some trivial and slow graphics etc.). The same applets run under netscape give a CPU usage of ~5% .
