https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=3D282890 Bug ID: 282890 Summary: Ports framework: make flavors more visible and user friendly Product: Ports & Packages Version: Latest Hardware: Any OS: Any Status: New Severity: Affects Only Me Priority: --- Component: Individual Port(s) Assignee: ports-bugs@FreeBSD.org Reporter: freebsd@ohreally.nl Hi, Port flavors currently are pretty much invisible to users/sysadmins. I understand that maintaining slave ports was time consuming, but at least the slave ports were easily visible to users. This is made even worse by the fa= ct that there is no documentation (at all) about flavors from a user/sysadmin point of view; the only documentation I can find is for port maintainers. As I see it, there would be 2 easy ways to make port flavors more sysadmin friendly: Add a flavor selection dialog before the port options dialog. Or bring back the slave port directories, but with a Makefile that just bui= lds the original port in the selected flavor. On top of that, a section in the FreeBSD handbook explaining flavors would = be a good idea. Thanks for considering, Rob --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.=
