I did a hexdump of my most recent Linux lib (libc.so.5.3.12) and found that a grep like: grep "The Linux C library" libc.so.5.3.12 yields: ,/@(#) The Linux C library 5.3.12Uknown uid_t size and sign Unfortunately, when I tried this neat thing on various other libc versions I have littering around, the response wasn't reliable, so I'm sorry, I haven't any reliable way to tell this. I know some folks who know Linux fairly well; I'll ask and see what kind of response I get. I'll look for something that would not need the linux toolset to accomplish. ----------------------------+----------------------------------------------- Chuck Robey | Interests include any kind of voice or data chuckr@eng.umd.edu | communications topic, C programming, and Unix. 9120 Edmonston Ct #302 | Greenbelt, MD 20770 | I run Journey2 and picnic, both FreeBSD (301) 220-2114 | version 3.0 current -- and great FUN! ----------------------------+-----------------------------------------------
