What version of FreeBSD is this?  2.1.0 and above don't use the GATEWAY
option anymore.  It's a sysconfig item now.

I wasn't aware of a ARP_PROXYALL option.  The SLIP driver may need to be
set up to handle Proxy ARP.  I haven't set this up so I wouldn't know.

How about using PPP?  That is somewhat better documented.
