 Hi Mark,
 Well, this happens on both 32-bit and 64-bit, and I can't actually boot into
 the environment to run dmesg.  Kris over at PC-BSD suggested trying the
 9.0-beta builds and maybe trying the USB PC-BSD installers to get a better
 understanding of what is going on.  I will post back when I have tested the
 beta and usb installers.
